Ned:

Daniel Day-Lewis.

OK, I'm a dreamer, but that's the face of the man I've 'seen' cleaning Ice under the heartwood tree since I first read the ms. for AGoT.

But I'll 'settle' for Sean Bean.

I was thinking of Gillian Anderson for Catelyn.

http://www.imdb.com/...n Anderson;s=nm

ETA: Or Miranda Otto: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001584/

Assuming she speaks English well enough:
Ivana Baquero as Arya
She was brilliant in Pan's Labyrinth.

Anna SophiaRobb (from Bridge to Terabithia) was mentioned in The East topic as Daenerys. I can see her either as Sansa Stark or as Margaery Tyrell.

I have never thought that anyone could be Ned but Sean Bean.

She may be to small to play Catelyn, but still looks young enough to play Sansa.

Rufus Sewell for Ned www.imdb.com/name/nm0001722/ - perfect age, worked in the genre and be good for him to play a good guy. He was excellent as Hamilton on HBO's Adams

Mrs Stark - Anna Wilding www.imdb.com/name/nm0005555/ - relative unknown but looks the part and very talented

Jon Snow - Edmund Entin www.imdb.com/name/nm1925823/ about the right age and look, also relatively unknown.

Benjen Stark - Ioan Grufford - www.imdb.com/name/nm0344435/ - I think he would be perfect

Catelyn - Molly Parker - ie Alma Garrett from Deadwood. She fluctuates well between being a warm and friendly lover, a caring mother, and an irrational harpy. She also looks great in period dress.

Since I think we're doing the entire Stark household here:

Maester Luwin - Pete Postlethwaite - I think Postlethwaite could do this in his sleep.

Gerard Butler for Ned http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0124930/

Probably a little pricey... he would make a good Stannis as well.

Sean Bean does seem a viable option, especially considering he would only be in it for a single season.

For Jon I was thinking Skandar Keynes, the kid who played Edmund in the Chronicles of Narnia. Unlike most of the other kids in the franchise he is showing a lot of talent as an actor and he looks young enough to play the fourteen year old Jon, even though he's seventeen. Hasn't done many movies or TV outside the Narnia films so it could be a good chance for him to expand in other areas.

I just can't see the kid who played Edmund being Jon. He looks like too much of a pussy to be Jon, in my humble opinion...a little too bratish to me (is bratish a word? if not, i just made it up).

Sean Bean would be awesome as Eddard, but don't you guys think he's a little too pricey? The only thing that might help is he'd only be in it for one series (unless they use him for flashbacks in other seasons).

Dakota Blue Richards was absolutely amazing as Lyra in the Golden Compass, and I think she would make an excellent Sansa.

Gerard Butler... Brandon Stark. If he can't be Ned, he should be in there in to fill out that "this characters gruesome torture/death scene would have been played by Mel Gibson ten years ago but he's too old for the part now" role. With Gerard set for his cameo as the flashier, hot-headed firstborn son, I'd say Jack Davenport for the quiet honorable younger sibling Ned (this is probably the "just 'chastized' by Jaime and the gold cloaks" look). Mel Gibson can be Rickard (extra crispy :) ).

For the ever-popular role of Catelyn Stoneheart Tully-Stark, Anne Dudek (best known as Dr. Amber "Cutthroat Bitch" Volakis on House MD).

Stark kids... no idea.

As a monsterous fan of all things Sharpe I would love to see Pete Postlethwaite in it somewhere. Though i would rather him be a character that remains in it for quite some time. His talents demand it.

Roy Dupuis this guy could play Ned or Ben, or probably a lot of people. He was in that show 'La Femme Nikita'. Speaking of which Peta Wilson could be Dacey Mormont.

I'm inviting controversy for this suggestion for Catelyn, but here goes:

Debra Messing

I've never seen her do a dramatic role, but she is very talented and has a strong classiness about her. What really did it, is that I saw this picture of her:

http://images.google...htt...l=en&sa=N

and it was EXACTLY how I pictured her in the books.

I write this assuming they will have to age the children to older teens/young adults due to the content:

Saffron Burrows as Catelyn Stark
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004787/
Has auburn brown hair; great as Hector's wife in Troy (written by Benioff)

Alexis Bledel as Sansa Stark
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0088127/
Looks younger than her age; perfect hair

Sean Bean is a great suggestion for Ned. And as I have mentioned in a previous post, a bigger star would be good for Ned.

Kodi Smit McPhee as Bran Stark
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2240346/
In upcoming The Road; maybe too entrenched in movies
