I just suggested him for Mance Raydar in another thread, but I think he would make an intriguing Eddard as well.

Here's another pic.

Matthew Settle - Ned Stark

For some reason I think Ned when I look at this picture

For anybody wondering, he was in Band of Brothers as Captain Spiers.

Some time ago, I thought that this photo of James Caviezel looks like the closest thing ever to a real-life Ned Stark. And I still do.

Probably the guy is too expensive, since he is not a specified TV actor, but most of his movies look cheap to me, escpecially since that Jesus one by Mel Gibson (that photo above is from it) which is probably the biggest movie in his career. Still, on the other hand we will need a Ned for just one season, so why not afford a slightly bigger name? He's not a Bard Pitt or a Tom Hanks, after all.

well yeh i forgot about the age as i used to remember him as teenage super man lol, u could have thomas dekker http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0215281/ from terminator sarah connor chronicles to play snow, but i don't think they will hire anyone under 18 to play a a 16 year old due to the amount of sex involved in this book as you know daenary's is 16 and she gets done by a 30 year old dude so thats not happening as its considered wrong

I posted earlier backing up this suggestion but it seems to have disappeared.

Caviezel is perfect for Ned in looks and acting skill, the commitment is something he could do without interrupting his movie career and would be prestigious enough (Epic HBO drama) to attract him I think. His age is a minor thing compared to most suggestions around here.

Wow, he does look like my image of Ned in that picture. I'll tenatively support this. Not least, he's currently shooting The Prisoner, a mini-series remake of the classic TV show, so he's certainly not unwilling to work on quality TV projects. And it's just for the one season, plus maybe a flashback or three, so...

Sean Bean or Jim Caviezel, either of those work for me, and doubtless there are other actors who could do the job, but those two are striking me as some of my favorite suggestions so far.

I will agree with the notion of Rachel Hurd-Wood as Sansa.

For some reason, I always thought of Bill Campbell in the role of Ned Stark. I usually only see him in the roles of bad guys, but maybe it would be nice to see him do something different. Here is his imdb link :Bill Campbell

Also, how about Connie Nielsen for Cat Stark? She is a great actress. Connie Nielsen

And for Robb Stark, my suggestion would be Garrett Strommen. Garrett Strommen

Thomas Dekker is 20 (21 in December) so that shouldn't be a problem. I fully support your suggestion of him.

He's got the broody look down - I could go with that.

Ben Whishaw for Jon if they're aging up the teen characters. He's got the long, Stark face, broodiness and physique.

If they're not aging Jon up, then I'm seconding Skandar Keynes. He's seventeen now so he'll be of age soon enough, and he looks younger than he is.

Someone mentioned Garret Hedlund for Jon but he strikes me more of a Robb.

My first post here!
Here are some suggestions:

- Robert Knepper as Littlefinger (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0460694)
- Alex Pettyfer as Joffrey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1641117/)
- Ben Barnes as Jon Snow (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1602660/)
Tom Welling for snow, his a good actor, and he fits the part, would love to see him do different things besides being clark kent on smallville and he has the build to fit being jon snow http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0919991/
I like Tom Welling a lot but not as Jon Snow. He's way too big, burly, and buff for Jon Snow. In fact, I think he'd be perfect for a young Robert Baratheon and/or maybe Gendry. Yeah, I know he's not as tall as Robert was supposed to be but camera angles, etc. can take care of that. Also, on the subject of character heights - hardly any of the actors will be as tall as their character is supposed to be. As has been discussed in other forums, Martin has a propensity in ASoIaF to make many of his characters quite physically exceptional. It's just not realistic to think guys who are actually 6.5+ feet tall will be found to play Robert, Sandor, Gregor, etc.

I was going to suggest luring Hugh Jackman to do a seaon of HBO to portray Ned, but Mads Mikkelsen is too perfect. He has that hard look about him that screams north man. You'd think he was Danish or something. ;)

I also like that he isn't a "star", so it'll be easier to see Ned on the screen and not Actor X.

If they need to bring in a "named actor" then I'll add to the Sean Bean chorus.
