[BOOK SPOILERS] Who is the least accurately represented character in the series?

For me, it was Robert Baratheon. In the books you read of this great warrior, huge and intimidating; 6ft 5inches and towering over lesser men. Even after years as king, eating well and drinking himself silly.

And then you watch the first episode of the series and he's played by fucking Fred Flintstone!

Honorable mention: Catelyn Stark. No offense to the actress but she's supposed to be prettier. She looks old.

Wut.

Look, i do not have love for Robert Baratheon, but Mark Addy was badass in his portrayal!

And Michelle Fairley is amazing, shut up. :P

If yer talking about show vs book, Dany makes the cut. Her portrayal in the show is just...no.

Ugh, I always hate it when people say this. All of the characters are aged up. I think Michelle looks amazing for a woman in her late 40s. Ned was aged up as well, but no one complains about Sean Bean looking "old."

As for the question, I'm tempted to say Jorah, but I enjoy watching Iain Glenn so much that I'm not about to complain. :P

I don't mind the actor, but I had a hard time buying that he was playing the role of great warrior/giant of a man. When you read Robert's description in the book you get a completely different visualization.

And I guess Catelyn wasn't so bad.

I don't think Daenerys is too different from the books, myself.

Shae of course is very different, but as pointed out she may not qualify since she is best described as a different character in the same role and with the same name. A perhaps subtle difference, but a significant one. Similar factors apply to Ramsay and even Roose Bolton, IMO.

Margaery is somewhat more direct in the series than in the books, or at least appears to be. Renly is considerably more immature and insecure in the series, too. Stannis is somewhat bolder but otherwise fairly accurate. Tyrion speaks his mind a bit more. Tywin is more sophisticated and subtle (an improvement over the books). Joffrey is even more degenerate. Jon Snow is considerably more naive.

I will go with Jon Snow, actually. Margaery is a runner-up.

I liked the show because it made me pay attention and have more sympathy for characters I didn't particularly like in the book (I don't mean I hated them, prayed for their deaths, or made meticulous lists of their sins and posted them on the boards, I just mean they didn't grab me).

eg Rob Stark - the whole teenage boy now I have to be the Lord and the King of the North was so poignant in the show instead of just vaguely annoying to me in the book. The contrast between his interactions with his mother vs Joffrey's interactions with Cersei was really brought out. It was all so sad sob sob.

eg Robert - I did sympathise with him in the 'war stories' scene - he was trying to make a valid point even if being nasty to those who couldn't argue back. Also the scene with Ned injured and Cersei babbling and poor Robert saying the kingdom couldn't stand if the wolf and the lion fought, he showed he did have a grasp on things it was just he'd largely given up and become a drunk.

eg Jorah - the main difference is just Jorah's looks which now have that ageing Hollywood guy aspect instead of the hairy backed bear. I have to admit it made him more interesting to me and anyway I think it suits the character of someone who was a tourney champion, made a hopeless romantic marriage etc etc

The handsome Iain Glen, with a voice as smooth as butter, who I may or may not have a mancrush on, is quite a bit different than hairy, plain Jorah Mormont.

LOL, win.

Sandor Clegane is quite wubbified for the show. More noble and less anger. Also less creepy towards Sansa, but I am sure that is more for their age difference with Rory McCann being in his mid 40s and the character being in his late 20s.

Nah. In the books, Robert was a big fat joker who loved his wine and women too. Its young Robert that is this big bruiser. We dont really see young Robert....

Stannis is somewhat bolder but otherwise fairly accurate.

Show Stannis is a bit jittery and nervous looking. I think this is actually Dillane trying to play up Stannis' angry side and his sternness but it comes off as rather jumpy. At least he still does the teeth grinding thing....

I'm used to seeing Sean Bean in that kind of role after watching Lord of the Rings and Black Death. Isn't Ned Stark supposed to be in his 30s? If so, Sean Bean looked like a young man that has fought way too many battles, lol. As for Michelle Fairley, I'm not saying she doesn't look good. I'm saying, I expected the actress playing Catelyn to look more youthful.

Physical depiction of Robert was bad. His dominating stature and Ned's complete surprise about his current appearance was one of my favorite details but lost on the show. Addy looks like he was always plump and portly.

But then you just have to accept that the show will vary on certain details and I began to love Addy after that.

I think both the casting and the actor's portrayal of Robert was perfect. The drunken whoremonger of a King that you see is so far removed from the man and Warrior that he was that he is unrecognizeable. Robert the Warrior of the Trident is long gone.

Multiple answers is cheating but

Renly-nothing in common besides his name

Shae-Only similar aspect of show and book Shae is name

Jeyne Westerling-New name and new character entirely

Xaro-If I could list everyone in that city I would but because I can't I will name him; anyone who read the book series knows why

Ramsay hasn't even appeared in the show yet, he's only been mentioned, how can we apply a judgement like this yet?

We get that - but when you see Robert is shorter or about as tall as Ned as a reader you think...what?!

Haha, do you mean because he is not supposed to be from the Summer Islands?

I'd have a hard time believing that a woman much younger than Fairley to have a son that looks as old as Robb.

I think its because the actor who's slated to play Ramsay is actually rather good looking. I reserve judgment until i see him in the role. If hes a super creeper like hes supposed to be, im cool with it. Im just not cool with the idea that he will have fangirls....
