What  if robb refuses to be ruler of riverlands after ned is executed and renly killed and chooses to move army back north since he realizes  he out of supporters(no vale support and stanis won't let him keep north independence )so he fortifies moat callin and gives Jaime to edmure  and tell him to make peace with lanisters  since he will not be king of the riverlands or support riverlands in a losing war.

Hrm...Moat Cailyn isn't the only way in--it's just the only way in by land.  Stannis makes a good point about both Robb committing treason by claiming independence for the north as we as in his motivation for going to the Wall--he's got to save the realm.   The north is part of the realm.  Any king, with the possible exception of Tommen or Cersei will do something to bring the north back into the realm.  How badly would the north be hurt if a massive fleet destroyed White Harbor or pulled a Salt Pans type massacre at Flynt's Finger?

Robb would have lost a great many northern lives for the sake of the Riverlands just to leave the Riverlands holding the bag.  I suppose a retreat would be possible, northern independence would not last forever and what does the north do when the Riverlands rise again?  It would have been a bad idea.

Go north is the right move. Robb doesn t have much problems of abdicating his kingship at the time. He just doesn t want to do it to the lannysters.

So he just has to wait until one of the boratheons conquers KL and then submit or if they fail he had more time to better prepare his attack. At most robb could harass tywin's army and try to make him stay away from KL to help the boratheons.

What doesn t make sense is him facing the bulk of the lannister army while renly and stannis that want the IT fight themselves and then can attack an unguarded KL and in the end punish robb because he rebelled. There is very little gain for robb in the war...

Torhenn's sons were in favour of rebelling against Aegon himself, with Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes at his command. Dorne did it and successfully so.

Today, without dragons, the North would be able to do it too, if they were willing to make the necessary sacrifices as Dorne did. It would be bloody, but in the end the North cannot be taken and held by a foreign force if the Northmen are dedicated enough to victory.

Catelyn would not be pleased. Just leaving her sick father and younger brother to deal with the Lannisters. Although it was her actions that caused Tywin to strike the Riverlands in the first place. Perhaps Catelyn would have stayed in Riverrun while Robb rode home with his Westerling bride as the new Lady of Winterfell.
