  1. Taught in all public schools no less if the teacher believes in it. Ya know, bring prayer back!
  2. Hereditary deserves a shout out. Midsommar was fucked up to.
  3. Simple. E is mean spirited and is probably a narcissist. J is extremely kind and considerate. The former didn't give two shits if I was having a rough day and only wanted to talk about herself for the most part. The latter listens, is understanding and wants to be equal partners. Pretty night and day. Plus J is fun while E seemed kind of boring outside of picking fights at bars when she was drunk. They also both brought up their sexual interests early on with E wanting it to be all about her needs while J wants it to be about what we could do together that would make us both happy. The only thing they really have in common is that they are both attractive women with beautiful eyes and serious...er...assets. Chats can confirm that part as she's seen pics of both of them. Also, like I mentioned a while back, E thought it was really weird that I like posting here and thought pretty low of all of you for wanting to do the same. J thinks it's cute that I've made friends on an online forum where we talk about politics, sports, philosophy, literature, movies, etc. in a both serious and silly way. So again, night and day. I told both of them about how @Fragile Bird got me a book I couldn't really get to complete a collection. E thought that was insane. J found it to be adorable. So that's why I find J to be so different and a much better match.
  4. Brackets be busted. Thankfully I only had UNC in the Final Four.
  5. Bats and balls are back! I'm going to try and follow the Twins a little more this year. 4-1 to start the year.
  6. Sounds like everyone is having issues. 431 has come back and bad lag. I've been getting the human thing too, but that hasn't been a huge issue. The 431 flag still confuses me because I've followed the steps I've found on DIY videos on YouTube and they tend to just be temporary fixes. Who knows. Appreciate all your work Ran. I'm sure you're have a headache.
  7. Jesus thought Hitler had some good ideas. At this point it's probably best to post the problems we're having in the board issues thread up to. That will make it easier on Ran.
  8. Well to answer Scot's question, you can identify these people because they both say they're devout Christians and think Jesus is too woke. Because that makes so much sense.
  9. It's always funny when you hear, albeit rarely, someone say that Jesus was an American. My guess is their Jesus also caries an Uzi with him wherever he goes.
  10. It's very common for Buddhism and Hinduism to be practiced together. I also think like you said it's common for Buddhist temples to have Hindu shrines to be welcoming even if that specific temple is not teaching the religion. I don't believe I said most. I was just making the point that one can both say they follow a religion and also be an atheist. As to polytheism, many religions that subscribe to this have one god that is the creator. Likewise some monotheistic religions could be interpreted to have demigods. I wouldn't call most polytheists atheists.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is more that some people practice both Buddhism and then another religion that does as there's no conflict in doing so. I think what makes Life of Pi fascinating is that Pi believes in several religions that can have very conflicting viewpoints while also finding atheism to be an interesting concept.
  12. Listening to the GA hearing. This is why I find so many lawyers to be gross. Trump's team is despicable.
  13. But therein lies the rub, you can both be an atheist in the technical sense and buy into a cult that behaves with similar tendencies of religion. And then there is Buddhism, one of the largest religions in the world that doesn't recognize a deity. A Buddhist can both be described as an atheist and religious at the same time. I generally think agnosticism should be the preferred path. Atheism also makes a claim that really can't be proven. I have no problem saying manmade gods are not real, but we still don't know if there is a deity or deities and if there are they problem exist outside of the realm of our understanding. And in that case it's probably best not to worry too much about it/them. Positive spirituality is probably more useful.
  14. Certainly true with the movies. I was referencing the comics. In them Joker is a clown and often times barely impacts Batman (but then again he does kill him in one of the comics I read). Luthor is a pretty dangerous villain who is very controlled. He just has to fight a much harder hero. Luthor vs. Batman would be pretty interesting.
  15. Rare is the five and a half hour phone call that keeps you up till 4 am. Fuck my day is going to be unproductive yet I couldn't be happier.
  16. @Ser Scot A Ellison Well that begs a question, do you view Nazism in Germany as a religion? Or in general similar systems that have overlaps with a loose understanding of what could be a religion? Not saying I necessarily do, but cults also have a lot of religious tendencies even if they do believe in a higher power that isn't human while rejecting traditional understandings of how god or gods work.
  17. You're right, but Batman does break his mask which I thought effectively means he's dead and tells Bane he has his permission to die. IIRC the no killing policy was more tied to the older comics and I do believe he would let people die, unlike say how he saved The Joker. I could be wrong though. Superman kills a fuck ton of people in the movies lol, so he's no saint either.
  18. Best way to not believe in a religion is to read the text cover to cover without there being someone there to tell you want to think.
  19. This is why younger Superman is more interesting. He still ends up sticking to his morals, but still has youthful flaws. As an adult he's almost always true to his moral center unless someone can control his mind. Honestly for me the best depiction of Superman on screen isn't even in a Superman movie, it's in Kill Bill 2 when Bill says Superman is his favorite character and uses his mythology as an analogy and contrasts him with other superheroes, and even in his story he says it's not a great comic. Eh, Lex Luther is on par with The Joker and Two Face. Batman just has so many more good B level villains. And Batman does have more of an arc. It's not the biggest one depending on which version of his story is told, but it's not basically a flat line which is largely what Superman is.
  20. He also more or less kills Bane. Obviously he's no Deadpool, but in each film he does basically kill someone. Nolan's films just do a much better job of limiting the body count while looking into his philosophy. Which is why he's boring IMO.
  21. Sure, but not long after the Joker taunts him he does break his rule and at times he lets people die instead of saving them. IIRC from the handful of comics I've read he does that a number of times as a loophole. I did read All-Star, but that's the only other Superman comic I've checked out. Like I said before I just don't find him to be that interesting of a character. He just comes off as not having much of an arc. That's why I used the DBZ comparison. Goku is the same from beginning to end whereas Vegeta is a rollercoaster. The latter is more impressive and entertaining.
  22. Well that's why I referenced Superman For All Seasons. That's a really touching story. But you're right in that they often write him in a very lazy way. Like with Bats, a complicated coming of age Superman story is far more interesting than a CGI porn movie.
  23. Nolan's Batman kills as well. Honestly young Bats is the best version of him when he's figuring shit out and not completely cynical. That's why I've always said Batman Beyond would be a great thing for a studio to try.
