Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
BigFatCoward replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
I have something called mortons neuroma. Niggly rather than painful. But just not getting better by itself. Doesn't stop me cycling but running is a definite no go. Will probably need a steroid injection, can't imagine that will happen any time soon on the NHS. -
Notting Hill weekend and extinction rebellion. I will probably get home at 0300 or so but after 4x16 hour days, on my feet the whole time wearing incredibly uncomfortable body armour, I'm having a drink no matter what time I finish.

Law Enforcement and its abuse of power
BigFatCoward replied to Ser Scot A Ellison's topic in General Chatter
We have something similar re 'joint enterprise' but that would be - You went on a robbery with someone you knew to be in possession of a knife and the person you were with used that knife and killed someone. You could have reasonably forseen that may happen. The above example is horseshit, there are so many breaks in causation between the action and the outcome. I ran it past my PC's today and even they (PC's are generally a bit more aggressive for want of a better word) thought this was preposterous. -
Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint

@Iskaral Pustactually 2 of them were from rolling my already damaged ankles in massive divots, nobody near me. But generally I take your point. I also chipped a bone in my ankle once when I kicked my own ankle as I fell over. -

Lucky you. I broke both my ankles 3 times each. They are just sawdust and bits of broken glass now. Along with other various injuries and ailments including a nice scar on my knee where I did a sliding tackle over a broken bottle someone had thoughtfully left on the pitch. -
Not my drinking, but the person next to me on the platform at 0530 wearing a health and safety high vis vest, with a can of lager and a spliff is giving me some concerns (TBF he looks like he has just finished a night shift rather than on his way in for an early one).

Realised just now that kids will sleep when they want and not when they don't. I stubbed my already broken toe on the little mans swing chair and screamed fuck at the top of my lungs 3 times, he didn't even flicker.

Golf: The Majors and Minors 2021
BigFatCoward replied to Mr. Chatywin et al.'s topic in Entertainment
Never said I agree with it. I have no idea why basketball players don't all sack off college and play in Europe for a year instead. -

Gymnastics definitely should be at the Olympics because it's the pinnacle of their careers. See earlier comments. -

E sports is a joke full stop, never mind in the Olympics. For me, boxing gets a pass because it's amatuers. Womens football I'm fine with, but world Cup probably still >>>>>>>>>> Olympics. -

True, but at least road cyclists aren't multi millionaires like those other sports. I don't know enough about skateboarding but I'd assume X games gold is at least as important as Olympic gold? -

IMO any sport where Olympics isn't the thing competitors most want to win shouldn't be included. Football, basketball, tennis and golf can fuck right off. -

I bet you could stand and chip balls at the tree all day without one staying in if you were trying. -

It blows my mind that after the start to their careers Rory and Speith only have the few majors they each have. Rory looks well set tonight though. -

Was there any other context or was it just blatant arseholery. -
Law Enforcement and its abuse of power
BigFatCoward replied to Ser Scot A Ellison's topic in General Chatter
The issue is not only whether they deserve to be die, but whether officers have a responsibility to increase the risk to their own life to reduce the risk to the subject slightly (people can die from getting shot in the leg, especially the thigh which is where I assume people are saying police should aim, nobody is advocating for a shin shot are they?). Also a very close to miss to a thigh shot is the groin, stomach etc, hardly much better. -

Did the officer mean to shoot him in the leg? That's not clear from your post. -

If someone is running at someone with a knife and they have a gun they are shooting to incapacitate. The risk of not doing so is too great. To your second point yes, our firearms officers are far better trained I'd imagine than your average American officer with a gun. And normally are deployed due to specific job, with Intel and risk assessments and briefings before involvement. -

You don't just shoot the body because its easier to hit, if you shoot someone in an arm or a leg they are not incapacitated. Also ricochets are less predictable. If someone else is in your line of sight you can choose not to fire, if you shoot hoping to hit the ground if you miss, it can go anywhere. For the record I have never ever carried a firearm, and would resign if forced to do so. But I know a lot of people on the armed units. -

If US tasers have similar issues to ours they are not remotely accurate, and can get blocked by thick clothing. If someone was trying to stab you, you would choose the police shoot them everytime. -

Complete opposite for me. Stab wounds are normally a lot more messy, though that might be because we have shite ammo in the uk. Also the more personal nature of stabbing someone up close rather than shooting someone from afar I find a lot more upsetting.
