  1. In accordance with ancient law and tradition, there is currently a bale of straw hanging underneath a bridge in London to warn shipping on the Thames of reduced headroom https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/oct/18/millennium-bridge-workers-forced-to-hang-straw-bales-after-ancient-bylaw-triggered
  2. Given the stinger at the end of last season, I’m assuming it’s something to do with Boimler’s transporter clone
  3. That’s because the Forsaken all thought the TP too dangerous to use regularly, except for Ishamael/Moridin, and the others thought he was crazy anyway. So the only interaction we got was the “crossing the streams” in Shadar Logoth at the end of CoS
  4. In which note, he got named by Moghedien in the dialogue so he’s definitely in. This gives us five named Forsaken so far, the three who’ve appeared plus Graendal and Sammael. So if they are cutting down to eight, that leaves three more. I think there’s a general consensus that Asmodean is in, so who are the other two to make the cut? Demandred and Rahvin?
  5. What I don’t understand is why Labour haven’t come out and said we’re going to keep HS2 if we win. It seems like a big obvious move to show that they aren’t just Tory lite, and would be popular in the Northern seats they need to win back.
  6. Probably yes, it has (tagged as I can’t remember how early in the book this comes up) the
  7. But that was because in the books RJ kept repeating the prophecies about the Stone not falling until the Dragon took Callandor, and how everyone knew this was what would prove he wasn’t just another false Dragon. The show hasn’t mentioned this at all.
  8. They haven’t done anything in the show to set up Tear and Callandor, whereas in the books, the fall of the Stone was the most well known of the Prophecies and the biggest indicator to the general population that Rand was the real Dragon Reborn. The show seems to be making Falme and “bannered across the sky in fire” that marker instead. As far as adapting TSR for S3 goes, they’d better get the Aiel history sequence right.
  9. Accidentally brutally cut off his own head while combing his hair
  10. Only Connect went in with the memes tonight - a rickroll in the music question and then having the categories in the missing vowels round as “normal men” and “innocent men”
  11. The second triumvirate had two Marcuses, Octavian was the only one who wasn’t.
  12. Dineage isn’t a minister though, she’s chair of the relevant backbench select committee. So the letter is IMO mostly for publicity and political posturing.
  13. You mean the Last Light of the Sun setting?
  14. On the super cyclist side of things, Eddy Merckx would like a word. Armstrong was literally a Tour de France machine and never won any of the other big races. Capability Brown, for those who read Discworld, is the inspiration behind Bloody Stupid Johnson. And back on topic, Don Bradman.
  15. Although existing owners will be able to keep them if they’re neutered and muzzled https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66829892
  16. As someone who does not and has no intention of ever owning a dog, I do too. They seem much more relaxed and far less likely to bother you when you pass them on a narrow footpath.
  17. The casual sadism there does give more evidence for the idea that she’s been merged with Semirhage
  18. The chief vet has answered that American bully XLs would not be culled, says chief vet https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66829892
  19. The problem with balefire, and the reason both sides stopped using it in the War of the Shadow, is that overuse leads to paradoxes and potential unraveling of the Pattern - because the retroactive nature means that anything a balefired person did in the seconds/minutes before their death is undone but people still remember it happening. After Rand BF’d Rahvin, Asmodean’s final chapter has him getting drunk because loads of people are saying to him that they were sure they’d seen his corpse, and he knows what that means.
  20. I was going to say I didn’t think she was old enough to play Cadsuane, but it turns out she’s 71. But she will likely be very good whoever she’s playing.
