Gneisenau
It said that Needle is for making quick precise attacks, and Arya talks about the pointy end and compares it to needlwork, so it would seem Jon gave her a rapier, does this mean we will see more Renaissance era swords ?(contrary to the SSM)
Usrnmhsnomning
No, it's not a rapier, nor does it's description match that of a rapier. The "pointy end" comes from Jon, not Arya, and it's quite obviously a tongue-in-cheek joke Jon was making at Aryas expense; she obviously knows what end of a sword to 'stick' them with, hence the joke. Dagon
Nope, it's a normal sword for petite hands.http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Needle,_Sword_of_Arya_Stark.jpg
joe42m1
I don't think it's a true rapier (no extra hand protection on the hilt), but it is definitely made in that style (light, slender blade used for thrusting rather than slashing). Also I believe Braavos is said to be an allusion to Renaissance Venice.
Ours if the Fury
You would have to assume, as it takes the exact shape

Flig
Nope, it's a normal sword for petite hands. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Needle,_Sword_of_Arya_Stark.jpg To be fair, we should keep in mind that that's an image of the show's Needle, and the show's weapons aren't always what Martin had in mind when he was writing. Schmendrick
Nope, it's a normal sword for petite hands. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Needle,_Sword_of_Arya_Stark.jpg What Dagon posted is probably pretty close to what Needle looks like, since it was "designed while working closely with Mr. Martin to make sure [it] fit his vision." And George is apparently not shy about making his vision clear to the guys who make these swords.
