Last pagan country in Europe, massive ancient forests, a religion centered around sacred groves, impassable swamps in summer, several meters of snow in winter. Warriors who knew roads through the swamps and would engage in guerrilla style warfare against invading Crusader knights. A strong wolf motif in culture and myths. But over the last 50 years most of the swamps have been drained, and global warming keeps reducing snow lately. So now it might be Rain or Mud.
