As to the rest of the indentured servant thing: it's bullshit that NCAA athletes can't get paid for their autograph or their jerseys. It's bullshit that they can't do commercials. It's bullshit that they can't make any money for their work as an athlete. It's bullshit that they can be dropped from their scholarship for any reason at all - like the QB going to Miss State who got dropped 16 days before they were going to early enroll. And because of the NFL's rules they cannot do anything else; they must go to college. They must be there for at least two years. There are no other choices. It's bullshit that an athlete cannot go to another school without waiting at least one year. It's bullshit that coaches can block a transfer for any reason at all.

It might not be indentured servitude, but having no choice and being exploited for your commercial and athletic abilities while being completely unable to negotiate any terms of anything and being reasonably unable to even choose where else to go is a very close form of indenture.

Agree on all points. It is bullshit. It especially sucks for football players, as the NCAA is the NFL's farm system. As you noted, there is no option. Seems to me that it is high time for a change. What happened to the lawsuit that was filed last year? It seemed like things were starting to move in the right direction.

You certainly make some valid points.

One of my personal favorites is the Ed O'Bannon case , where the NCAA is making money off his image in video games...20 years after he left school!
