Prince Nymor’s Letter

What do you guys think was in the letter that Nymor wrote to Aegon?

It was only given to Aegon by Nymor’s daughter after it became clear that he planned to reject the original offer of peace due to his council. It made him so angry that he clutched the Iron Throne so tighly it cut his hand. He then mysteriously flew to Dragonstone, coming back the next morning, and agreed to the peace. Gyldayn figures that perhaps Aegon grew compassionate towards his enemies, or the Martells threatened his children with Faceless Men, or that it was ensorcelled.

But according to a theory by In Deep Geek, it was not in fact written by Nymor at all. It was written by Rhaenys. According to the theory, she initially survived Meraxes crashing in Hellholt but was captured by the Ullers. Now, I’m not sure how versed you all are in House Uller, but they are known for being sadistic and torturing people. So they likely kept her alive, and tortured her for all the Targs had done. Nymor’s mother was in charge at the time, and was probably ok with it. But once she died and Nymor took charge it was clear that he was as tired of war as Aegon was said to be. Rhaenys was near death at this point and was going to die, so he had her write the letter to Aegon begging him to end it. And when she finally died he had her body smuggled to Dragonstone, so that she could be burned as Targaryen dictates. Nymor took no responsibility for what the Ullers did to her, but gave Aegon CLOSURE. It should be noted that 10 years later, Aegon flew to Sunspear and feasted with them as friends to celebrate the peace. So he had no anger toward the Martells seemingly.

What do you think?

That doesn’t make sense. If the Dornish had tortured Rhaenys to death, then Aegon and Visenya wouldn’t have rested until the entire region was depopulated.

The only way the Dornish could avoid that fate is leverage. And if the leverage was killing Rhaenys, then the leverage is very short term. What would stop Aegon from resuming the war later? The leverage has to be something long term, or else the Targaryens have every reason to continue to avenge Rhaenys’s death.

New theory(read fanfic) time! Letter is written by Rhaenys, she is captured and is pregnant and this time to Aegon's trueborn child and not a singer's get like Aenys. They threaten to kill the child and Rhaenys both if Aegon the impotent tries to overcompensate again by showing how big his... emm... realm is.  They marry the child into house Dayne, cuz, u know, Daynes can't have purple eyes of their own and must be secret Targs and also fan service.

That would be impossible, they were already draining resources and man power, and Aegon was absolutely tired of war by that point. The woman responsible for it was dead.

Perhaps there was no torture, perhaps Rhaenys did die when Meraxes crashed. Perhaps the kept her remains as a trophy like Meraxes’ skull. They could’ve just returned her remains to Dragonstone as a peaches offering.

Possible, though I find it unlikely.

Yes, the woman responsible for an invasion of her own region. Not the actual invaders  Strange wording there.

Renly Baratheon was acting on precedent!

Joking aside, it can’t be that either. Aegon could easily take the remains and then start the war again later down the road. Again, any self respecting diplomat wouldn’t trust people’s word, they would want a guarantee.

Maybe it was a coerced confession from Rhaenys that Aegon is impotent and neither of his “sons” are biologically his. That sort of thing has no expiry date, it could easily dislodge the new Targaryen dynasty.

What do you think?

I think the letter was by Nymor, but revealing that the true envoy was not his daughter in KL but one at Dragonstone and a veiled threat to the youngest son still at Dragonstone as well as holding a carrot of a gift. Think of it along the lines of what Visenya herself did at the Eyrie, when she took the child lord of the Eyrie for a little tour and welcomed his mother while he sat in her lap. "What a cute baby! He grabbed for my beard when I held him! - that sort of thing.

When Nymor sends his daughter to KL overland with the skull of the dragon, she's the attraction, and everybody of importance is at KL, including Visenya and Aegon's heir. But the youngest, Maegor, and still a baby, would have been left behind in Dragonstone with a wet nurse. With both Visenya and Aegon at KL, both surviving dragonriders are at KL, as well as their notorious dragons, and so that leaves Dragonstone inherently vulnerable in that moment.

Note that it's said that Visenya and Aegon never lived together after Maegor's birth, and while Aegon always kept his heir by his side, Visenya remained with Meagor at Dragonstone. Except during that envoy visit, when Visenya is exlicitly mentioned to demand for the head of Nymor's daughter. The living arrangements of Aegon and Visenya as are relayed to us by the maesters were imo a result of Nymor's secret visit to Dragonstone by sea.

We know the threat must have been at Dragonstone, because Aegon almost immediately hopped onto Balerion to fly to Dragonstone once he read that letter (his hand bleeding). Then, upon Aegon's arrival at Dragonstone, he met with Nymor in secret at Dragonstone, where Nymor handed the carrot to Aegon - Rhaenys' remains

Nymor showed - you can try and conquer us, but at the cost of the lives of your children. By sending his own daughter to KL with that letter containing the threat to a prince, Nymor was showing Aegon he was willing to risk his own heir's life to keep Dorne free, and that as long as Aegon and Visenya warred and flew to Dorne to burn it, they also left the two sons vulnerable in KL and Dragonstone for any assassin.

Aegon chose his sons and peace, and over time came to appreciate Nymor's ballsy move, and his courtesy by returning both dead (dragon and wife), and even in a way allowing Aegon to save face, for he could keep the actual danger Maegor had been in a secret. Though I do think he did inform Visenya over it, after which they concluded to never put the spare in the same location with the heir (as they grew up), and to never leave their side. So, Rhaenys' son always journeyed together with Aegon wherever Aegon went (in peace) and Visenya stayed with Maegor.

ETA: I think we will find out about what exactly Nymor did to make Aegon choose between "war or children", not via historians, maesters or Targaryens. Aegon made sure nobody on his side could ever find out (except perhaps for telling Visenya), but this is a family secret passed on from Prince/Princess of Dorne to their heir when their death comes near. So, Doran will inform (off page) or has informed Arianne of Nymor's actions already, and we will witness Arianne attempting something similar, most likely against Cersei. I'm thinking of Myrcella and when she dies (all three children of Cersei will die), and is sent back with foolish Cersei getting a letter to meet up with Arianne with Tommen in her lap, telling a tale about Nymor's letter: choose Cersei, Iron Throne or Tommen.

Quicksilver theory. Rhaenys fate. Nymor letter
The date of birth of Quicksilver is full of contradictions and probably it's not correct, this is possible, because Fire and Blood is actually a biography written by Maesters.
The biography says that when Quicksilver was given to Aenys, he started to grow and become strong, but after the death of Meraxes he refused to eat and weakened so much that he started crawling to move, this is the contradiction.
Rhaenys sacrificed herself to reincarnate in Quicksilver, it was a she dragon, very similar to Meraxes.
I think the mother of Dreamfyre is Quicksilver and the sacrifice of Rhaenys was useful to save Aenys life, the Targaryen dinasty and the world.
This explains the feast of peace, the body of Rhaenys that disappeared and the good relations with the Martells.
Asoiaf plot is based on Ouroboros philosophy , the circle of life, the things that return, and Daenerys is very similar to Rhaenys, I don't think she is Aegon reincarnated, probably Jon is the reincarnation of Aegon. Azhor Ahai is not one person but three and they form the three headed dragon.
