The Stark and Rogers marriage

So in the Strange Marriages thread, I was intrigued by one particular marriage between Branda Stark, elder daughter of Rodrik Stark, and Harrold Rogers of the Stormlands. Simply put, Harrold Rogers is/was a mere knight, several degrees below a lordship of any kind (and on the other side of the country to boot). How come the Starks were content with marrying Branda to a knight? If Branda were unmarried, why wasn't she flung at Rickard, whom her sister Lyarra married?

Could be he was a knight of renowed skill , jorah managed to punch above his weight as his being almost 1st in at pyke and his victory at the tourney after hinted hed be an elite knight thus a good guy to bring into the family as long as there were plenty of other kids to marry off for strong house alliances

I mean, Leyton Hightower married his daughter off to some rando called Jon Cupps. It happens sometimes.

If he was renowned, how come that isn't mentioned?

Rodrik Stark himself is a youngest son with many elder brothers. His daughters could not expect prestigious matches ... just as he himself didn't get one. His younger daughter marrying the heir of Winterfell would have been a great success, not something he could except because his name was Stark.

Chances are good that Rodrik's journeys hooked him up with folks in the Stormlands. Rogers might even be a buddy of his who returned with him to Winterfell.

Maybe it went without saying

Mayve like jorah he had looked like he was on track to be a top ten warrior but it was just a hot streak.

Maybe he was amazingly  impressive and skillfull in sparring and training but never got any real combat to shine...a gym hero as many would say in mma gyms!

Or Maybe even comming from lower class he may have had rich merchant family.

Or like lfs father and the tullys he or his father really got along on a personal level with the starks thus once the other marriages had secured the north the starks felt hapy enough to marry a daughter to a close pal!

IMO it is probably a little more than him being just a really skilled knight.

If you look carefully at the various clues, there is a web of relationships in the Kingdoms, of which the descendants of Lorra Royce (Branda's grandmother) were part.

The Blackwoods had known historic connections to the Stormlands of course. That part does not require any speculation. Those connections seem to have continued after the conquest, not so much directly with House Baratheon but with other descendants of the extinct House Durrendon, and therefore of Shiera Blackwood, such as House Caron.

Meanwhile clues in historic relationships post-conquest as well as in first names, and in religious affinities connect House Blackwood to House Royce, and House Royce to House Caron. The Royce-Caron association likely began in the reign of Aenys, when both Houses were richly rewarded with offices after dealing with threats to his reign. The Caron-Blackwood connection was probably older. The Stark-Royce connection began either with an Arryn granddaughter of Torrhen Stark who married a Royce (Ronnel and his Stark wife had no sons), or with the descendants of Alarra Stark, who would have had a marriage outside of the North arranged by Queen Alysanne.

The point being, Harrold Rogers may have been just a knight, but, much like Harry the Heir, he may also have had some role in the line of succession for this network of inter-connected Houses.
