Larry.
I posted this on my blog (or rather, I translated the bit I discovered when reading a fan site of his), but I thought there might be fans of his The Shadow of the Wind here who might want to know this. Mind you, this is for the original Spanish edition (no word on when the translation will be coming out), but it looks like it'll be on St. George's Day, or April 17. Sadly, nothing on this appears on Amazon's order page, so I might have to wait a bit longer. Damn.
Larry.
Amazon's linking to my translation of the news now. Very cool.
Arbor Gold
Great news! Thanks for the alert. The Shadow of the Wind was terrific and I am eager to read more works from this author (in translation, sadly).
Larry.
You're welcome. It's one of those times that I know I can get the scoop on most others in the greater spec fic blogosphere and when it concerns an author whose previous book I enjoyed, it's an easy call as to whether or not to publicize this. Arbor Gold
Omg, I just read your Amazon link, and while I was sold before, this quote clinched it for me:
The new book will "tell a story of ambient intrigue in the Barcelona of the 1920s and will return to submerging the reader in the Cemetery of Lost Books,"
Zafón has a special gift of incorporating tight, intriguing plot with a love for books and reading. *sigh* More of the Cemetery of Lost Books. I am so there. :)
gyrehead
For updates you might want to bookmark this site: http://readingadventures.blogspot.com/ The author of the blog seems to be pretty on top of the matter and was the first place I think I saw the news. Larry.
OK, here is a link to the cover art for the upcoming book, page count (672 pages), and publication date (May 13 in the US). Already near 10K in the Amazon rankings and it isn't even an English-language book. Think this might be a popular item when it is translated in the next year or so? gyrehead
Weidenfeld & Nicolson are publishing the U.K. edition and looks to be out in March - April 2009. U.S. edition will likely appear at the same time if Oprah Winfrey follows rumor and dubs The Shadow of the Wind worthy for the masses in the post-summer season. The Angel's Game then would likely be a May 09 release by Penguin (? which imprint since there have been editorial changes since tSotW came out) in the U.S.
Nymeria87
That's great news! I was waiting for more Zafon to be published :) Can't wait to read more about the Cemetery of Forgotten Books either, it was a great read in German and in English though I might actually pick this one up in Spanish too :)

Fantasy Book Critic
I never heard of this author before, but it sounds really interesting...
Larry.
He sold 10 million copies of The Shadow of the Wind alone worldwide. This one ought to be just as popular, if not more so. I'll have a review up on the 13th in two places. One in English, the other in Spanish.
Werthead
The Shadow of the Wind sounds intriguing, but the fact that it was popularised by Richard 'n' Judy makes me want to heave a little. Still, Oprah's endorsement of The Road didn't affect enjoyment of that book (although The Pillars of the Earth was more of a mixed bag). Larry.
It's an enjoyable read, with some nice phrasings that aren't too ostentatious. Think of it as a mystery that deals with literature and its effects on the reader and perhaps that'll help. And if you've read any stories by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Zafón is closest to him in style, I believe.
Larry.
An interesting interview with Zafón. I'm working on a translation of it which shall be posted tomorrow night, but not on my blog.
Virtua Icon
There are times when I wish I was fluent in more than one langauge. This is one of them. I suppose a re-read shall sustain me until the translation, no?
Larry.
It should, and by the way, tomorrow afternoon/evening, expect some coverage of this on Amazon. I'm busy translating that linked interview into English to be part of their coverage, plus there'll be one of the first major English-language reviews of that novel posted then. Needless to say, I'm a combination of stoked and frazzled right now.

Larry.
OK, here's the Amazon review, which contains a link to the second interview I've done. Hope this scoop is tantalizing enough for those of you who've read The Shadow of the Wind and liked it.
The Pita
Am I the only one who thought Shadow of the Wind wasn't amazing? I liked it a lot, but the end was kinda predictable. It was a great job on a book, and I fully enjoyed reading it, but at the end of the day it isn't that memorable. But Lain is a neat villain, and so is that other guy whose name I can't remember.
