All I know is that one translation of this book's title is [i]The Angel's Game[/i], which is a play off of the first two sections of the book ("The City of the Damned" and "Lux Aeterna", being a reference to Lucifer, if I'm not mistaken). I put the book on my shopping list at your recommendation and certainly look forward to read it. Keeping it in the area of latin language writers I bought today a book of a Portuguese writer, Rui Zink, "O Anibaleitor". Thanks for the translation DF, it already looks intriguing. I must admit I find the Richard and Judy tag mildly off-putting as well. In a way its great that the great British public are reading something other than Hello magazine and usually the books are at least competently written but I do feel a bit like a sheep for reading them. But Shadow of the wind, These Lovely Bones and Star of the East were definately worth it, and probably books I would not have found wandering around the book shop. Posted May 12, 2008 Author Share Posted May 12, 2008 I suppose I could get around to devoting a few months to improving my comprehension from around 30-40% to over 80%, DW ;) And no, I haven't read the book, but was guessing at another way of translating it from the Portuguese :P And BR, I know the feeling, as quite a few books I've bought over the years were selected to be part of Oprah's Book Club soon after I bought them, so you can imagine the moments of consternation that followed that! But yes, books like this one transcend whatever marketing labels given to them. I know in Spain, Zafón wouldn't authorize ARCs for the critics, since it was thanks to word-of-mouth from reader to reader that got him where he was today. It seems to have some sort of 'something' that made me feel very happy and excited about the story and the characters. I loved it. I check Zafon's section at my shop pretty much every time I go in so I guess I can coordinate my checking a bit better now. I'll read this new one as soon as we get it...translated.
