Official Casting: The Court

In the course of reading a very positive review of Red Riding by Todd McCarthy of Variety (review here; one of the top 5 most viewed articles of the day at Variety, about what sounds like an exceptional British TV film trilogy featuring Sean Bean and Mark Addy in some of the leading roles), he reminds me of an actor who would make a fantastic Janos Slynt if the first season gets ordered (*knock on wood*):

Warren Clarke as Janos Slynt. Extensive TV work in Britain, including Bleak House, and an episode of Blackadder [1:30 and 6:20 in]). Here's a good picture -- certainly can get that frog-faced look.

ETA: Ah, and I just noticed Nina Gold was the casting director. Given Bean and Addy, I expect Clarke has a good shot if it comes time to have Slynt cast.

Here are my suggestions............. most of them are not brand-new ;)

As Janos Slynt I would like to see Colm Meaney http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000538/ can imagine him as Davos Seaworth also

For Stannis ......... there can be only one Patrick Stewart http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Patrick+Stewart mo matter how old he is. If they can´t get him ............ my second round draft pick is Robert Picardo http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000585/ he is ´nearly`bald and look at his nutcracker chin

Barristan Selmy - as posted a thousend times before Peter O´Toole ;)

Renly - I believe Karl Urban would be great as the youngest of the Baratheons http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0881631/ could be a younger brother of Mark Addy in real life

My favourite for Littlefinger is Robert Carlyle http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119164/ has played with Mark Addy before in The Full Monty.

My Pick for Stannis: Tobiaz Menzies. He's the right age, he's got that righteously-steely demeanor down pat, and he's got history wih HBO!

That's the guy I'd like to see as Littlefinger!

And it is fun to see casting suggestions for Janos Slynt.

But there can be only one true Slynt.

That being said, I second Wade Williams as Lord (ahem) Janos Slynt.

I think I posted this one already, but all the suggestions run together after a while. For Ser Barristan Selmy, LC of the Kingsguard, I nominate: John Bach. He played the Faramir's chief lieutenant in TTT and ROTK, and struck me as a guy with who could do the Alec Guiness Obi-Wan style noble mentor thing. Here's his collector's card, proving he has fantasy-nerd cred :D

I think Canadian actor, Gordon Currie, would make a terrific Littlefinger. Gordon always plays sneaky conniving characters and I think he could do Littlefinger justice!

As for Stannis, the actor Colm Feore could play that character well. He might be abit too old, but he has the look and if Colm does not fit Stannis, Davos would be a fitting character for him to play, IMO.

Maester Pycelle would be played beautifully by Maximillian Schell who I pictured from the books as the old Maester!

As for Barristan Selmy, I don't just picture an old gent, but an old gent with a hint of humor. So, Gary Busey could pull such a character off, but being American I don't know if he does accents.

Here goes my suggestions for the court roles.

Brian Blessed for Robert Baratheon

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000306/

Brian Blessed would be perfect as Robert. He is a very good actor and he definitely could capture the spirit of the character. But I like Brian Blessed and I don't care too much for the Robert we see before he dies. His glory days are in the past and he isn't worth too much right now. But Brian Blessed is still a good choice for any role that needs a strong, forceful actor.
