Hill
When casting Jon Connington, it seems to me that the show has a lot of potential great actors that could fill the part, they can also be quite flexible with age because the Jon doesnt HAVE to be of a same age of Rhaegar, he could certainly be fairly older or maybe even a little bit younger. I presume that the role cant be filled by anyone but a white actor because of Young Griff posing as his son, as much as I would like to see someone like Idris Elba or Colin Salmon in the role. This also seems like one of the last major chances apart from Euron and Victarion to cast a kind of big-star-badass character as it would probably be season 5Potential Connington's could be:James Purefoy - http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0700856/ - It seems like fans have wanted him on the show for so long either as Jon, Oberyn, Mance or Euron. I hope he gets one of these roles because he would be incredible in it.Kevin Mckidd - http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0571727/ - woiuld perhaps be my preferred choice for Connington, would just love to see him in the show, Ideal situation would be to have both him and Purefoy with major roles, but I kind of doubt it happening.Dominic West - http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0922035/ - The guy I REALLY wanted to be Mance from as soon as I read the character. He could probably play the washed up Connington pretty well, would love to see him on the show and perhaps this would be his best chance at a role out of who we have left.Ray Stevenson - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0829032/ Would be perfect for Victarion perhaps but he could also pull of this role if he doesn't get big Viccy.Christopher Eccleston - http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0001172/ Another fairly big name that could fill the part though I would prefer one of the others.Jason Issacs http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0005042/ Once again, another incredible choice for the role, he could perhaps be Euron or Randyl Tarly too.Ian McShane http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0574534/ I am not opposed at all to ageing Jon up quite considerably, I don't think it would make much difference to the character and Ian would excel at any role he was given, kind of want him for a Greyjoy though.Sean Pertwee http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0675730/ bit of a cheaper wildcard option, but I like him and feel he is underrated. He, however, would be awesome as a Kettleblack/frey/nightwatch membersThere are probably loads more options too....Dominic West would be terrific. Purefoy possibly too, although he might be a bit too posh. Mind you there's never been anything that Eccleston hasn't improved beyond all measure. Apart from Heroes, and that was only because he was shamefully underused in that.
Ser Ennepe
I would love to see Kevin Mckidd as JonCon, but I think Thomas Kretschmann could be a good JonCon as well http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0470981/Yeah his accent could be a bit of a downer but JonCon lived quite a long time in Essos, some free city dialect could have sneaked into his way of speaking :D
Ser Areo Mace
Kevin McKidd(who's on Grey's Anatomy I think) is my first choice for JonCon but, either Damian Lewis(who's busy with Homeland) and David Wenham would work as well.
Which Tyler
Whilst reading, I had Paul Bettany in my head as Jon Conn.Unfortunately, he'd never take it; not even as a 1-season wonder-cast.Trouble is, he was so clear in my head, I just can't see anyone else there (yet; I'm sure I'll be fine once we get there)
Volantis
Kevin McKid is Jon Connington. He's about the correct age too. Besides that, he's worked with HBO before.Kevin Mckidd as Jon Conningtonhttp://urlivinginafa...ame-is-griff-we
Harald Hard-Ruler
Kevin McKid is Jon Connington. He's about the correct age too. Besides that, he's worked with HBO before.I'm not opposed to McKidd as Connington but is he about the correct age? McKidd is about 39, Connington was the Hand of the King briefly during Robert's Rebellion and is posing as the father of Young Griff who (if they pick an actor similar in age to Dany and Jon Snow) will probably look to be in his mid 20s. I always imagined that Connington would be closer to 50 when depicted on the TV show.
Which Tyler
Good point there - he'd be more-or-less similar in age to the likes of Rhaegar, Robert, Ned etc.Puts my wishlist nomination (Bettany) as too young as well :(
Tormund Giant*****
Jon Con in the book doesn't necessarily have to have been hand of the King, he could have been a younger knight who Rhaegar trusted, its not overly essential really. He could of been of an age with Jamie or a bit older perhaps. This can let them be more free with casting, though I would love Ian McShane to play an aged Jon Con. Arkash
Damian Lewis is the best choice imo for Connington... although... well, actually... apart from Mads Mikkelsen as Euron, I only want unknown actor now, for GoT.

I've mentioned Tony Curran before but as far as little known actors go I think Andrew Tiernan would make a great Jon Connington. He was Ephialtes in 300 (but obviously doesn't look anything like him usually) and has also had appearances in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Luther, Doctor Who and the Adventures of Merlin. He tends to play a soldier in a lot of roles so he should be perfect for the role of the humourless Connington.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0862907/http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2367528192/nm0862907http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2446166272/nm0862907http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1474799872/nm0862907

Anyway since Kevin Mckidd seems to be out of contention, my second choice would be the guy who played Faramir in Lord of the Rings.

Blutrabe
There seem to be about as many people who want Kevin McKidd for Jon Connington as there were people who wanted Martin Freeman for Bilbo Baggins.

Hedgehog
I agree with Damien Lewis and David Wenham being good choices. Generally, I can see a wide range of possibilities. I also was thinking of Max Martini when I recently re-read ADWD, although he was speaking with a slight Irish accent in my mind, and I've never heard Martini do an Irish accent. ;-)
