NurseNinja
just an idea.1) He was made a eunuch by a mage in a blood magic ritual.2) kings blood was used the red woman powerful blood magic rituals. Is it possible he was chosen beacuse he was a blackfyre? A weak spell for weak kingsblood?
Mladen
Possible, yes, but alas we have no proof for that. I like the logic, and I can see some other parallels, but at the end, Varys is one big mistery for me.
Flayed Starkman
Interesting idea, never though of it that way.But how would the mage know of his heritage?
mindchap
Another bad day for the search function to be down, I know there's tons on this subject but there really isn't anything definite IIRC.
NurseNinja
But how would the mage know of his heritage? Why would a Blackfyre in Essos hide it? arn't their a ton of them running around? or perhaps magic? Certainly he takes steps to obfuscate his nature now, but before...?
Flayed Starkman
If it was a common fact in Essos, some in Westeros would have heard of it, surely.

Eurybia
The Blackfyres are exinct in the male line, and we don't know about the female line. It's possible there are some running around (I think probable. See: fAegon), but I don't think it's common knowledge.
Wings
I think Varys is exactly who he claims to be; a man who came from the streets and worked his way up to the small council by doing the necessary things other people despise. Not every character has to have a complicated background. In fact; such a simple background makes Varys such an interesting character. Lady Gwynhyfvar
Yes, the blood magic aspect occurred to me while watching the show Sunday night. I've been suspicious of his bald head since reading Dunk & Egg though, and feel like there is a good chance he has Targ heritage. Two possibilities- yes, the Blackfyres are "extinct in the male line" but Varys is a eunuch and not likely to procreate, so that could be a clever bit if wordplay. Second is the possibility that he is an actual Targ, via the Aerion Brightflame line.
assjfjgjsgjljljglgjfjsduar
It's possible, sure, and a good catch. I wouldn't go so far as to call it proof, though.
Naathi Prince
I think this may have been said in one of the perennial Aegon isn't a fake/is a Blackfyre/is a fake but not a Blackfyre threads already. I think it functions well as something in a list of hints, but its not conclusive. A good part of the body of the argument.
Fire Eater
I think the spell could have been something Varys asked for, but it demanded a high price. Kingsblood is used in the most powerful of spells, but ot doesn't specifically take kingsblood for any spell, it can also come from people without kingsblood. The sorcerer might also have been Varys's mentor in magic, one of the few remaining wizards. MercyTheBlindUglyLittleCat
I think Varys is who he says he is... but Aegon is indeed a Blackfyre, and Varys obviously knows that. His allegiance to them is for reasons I can't quite speculate on.
