GarlanTyrel Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 I absolutely love everything about a Song of Fire and Ice, I love the characters and I love the detailed chapters and places.However I have one HATE.Am I the only person who hates Brans chapters? The chapter where he has his coma dream and the chapter where he marries the weirwood tree are amongst my favorites. But I love Bran, so.... It's bleak and miserable so compared with Victarions voyage, Dany's dragons, John's cliffhanger and all the debauchery and killing going on elsewhere it's perfectly understandable that it'd be boring in comparison. Shame the TV series butchered the fuck out of it.I had such high hopes. :crying: GRRM had admitted he struggled to write Bran's chapters because he's so young and he's crippledI don't remember the bit about because he's "crippled" -- He’s the youngest of the viewpoint characters and when you’re writing from the viewpoint of an eight-year-old or nine-year-old or 10-year-old boy, you have to kind of put yourself in a different mindset and say ‘OK, this is what’s going on but how would he understand it?’ Also, he’s the character that’s most deeply involved in magic and in fantasy, magic is tricky to write. Magic can easily overwhelm your story if you handle it wrong, so writing the Bran chapters is always a challenge for me. It goes a little more slowly than some of the other chapters.
