  1. In the history of English football there have only been two out (male) players: one currently, who plays in the Championship (second division), and Justin Fashanu in the 90s who was so abused he committed suicide. Like, I'd hazard a guess that there are some players out privately to their friends/their team, but yeah, it is (shamefully) a big deal.
  2. I hope not. I mean, in real life terms he can't, but since they don't care, there's a good chance of it. But I hope there's more of an arc of Ted (and Jamie) getting through to him than, you know, that. But I saw someone suggest that Zava will hurt or step on Danny Rojas in some way and Jamie will come to the fore and take leadership then. That does make sense. Jamie's on the anti-Nate arc and something that'd make him step up to a real leader is almost definitely on the cards. And he probably is too overwhelming a character to be a permanent fixture tbh.
  3. Wes Anderson being Wes Anderson in a big big way here.
  4. I'm no fan of Sanderson but that piece seems mostly to be the interviewer/writer throwing a tantrum about his own inability as a writer to portray Sanderson properly, and blaming it on his subject. It's a dreadful article. If the Clarke piece was him, it honestly feels like he's a dude whose got a job at Wired because the management there simply just don't know anyone else who's interested in covering that kind of subject, and also don't have the knowledge to tell when he's being shit at his job.
  5. Okay, so how did these people make the worst-looking shark movie trailer in the week that that Big Shark trailer hit?
  6. Which was an odd experience as a football fan coz this show is never realistic but the way Zava's signing worked was pushing the boundaries even for Ted Lasso. Still, very entertaining episode. Zlatan Zava should be fun, and they're clearly going to have an arc with him and Jamie. ps I wonder if Trent x Rebecca is one of the romance plays on the table here. Their interaction in her office suggested it to me. And he's actually an appropriate age.
  7. Yeah a story pops up that he's cheated on her because he likes to get pegged and she doesn't want to, and then they get pictured going to church together with the woman who's supposedly ramming him. It seems unlikely.
  8. She's going to do another job. Both of them made that pretty clear.
  9. Coz he's a cunt. I don't expect the show to insert any subtlety there. He's just a villain. A cad.
  10. Unless I missed something in the episode, I can't possibly see that being the reason, because (1) it'd make Roy an arsehole and (2) they're definitely getting back together. I've rarely hated a character as much as I hate Nate. I'm fairly sure he'll be redeemed in some ways, but I'm gonna find it hard to forgive him.
  11. We're gonna ride historic, on the Rainbow Road
  12. The only time in my life I ever ate a Fray Bentos pie I threw up. Not from food poisoning, like immediately just from the taste.
  13. Are you really taking Piers Morgan's side here?
  14. I think we should be fair that the writing doesn't seem incompetent. It's just trying way too hard, and additionally looks worse in comparison to the inspiration. There's nothing to get away with really. As obvious as the ripoff is, it doesn't seem to lift any actual passages, or events or the like, from Rothfuss. You can't copyright the idea of a cocky storyteller, or showy writing about silence.
  15. That is absolutely wild. I get being a fan, and paying homage, and all that. But if you're gonna write a fanfic, call it that.
  16. As an aside, unrelated to Rothfuss himself, but as we know we've had quite a few books since inspired in one way or another by Rothfuss. The 'I am telling you my story from the future' form has become popular since then. However nothing has been so frankly brazen as a book I happened across yesterday when I was scanning back through some recommended reads from 2022. I can't do a screenshot because, well, we don't do that here, but check out the free preview of RR Virdi's The First Binding on Kobo and read the first few lines of the first chapter. For all I know it's a perfectly fine book past that, and the premise sounds intriguing, but he's biting a man's flow there.
  17. 'The book's coming coz some people logged on' has scraped the bottom of the barrel, scraped through the bottom of the barrel, scraped through the earth beneath the bottom of the barrel, scraped through the Earth the earth is in, and has continued scraping its way a good portion of the distance to Alpha Centauri.
  18. Would GRRM even have heard of Frey Bentos? They're not a thing in the US, I don't think.
  19. Every so often the youtube algorithm chucks a trailer at me for a budget thriller or action film. You know, the sort of cheap, keep-a-studio-going thing, starring either no-one you've heard of or actors long past their last big payday, that'll almost certainly vanish straight to video. Normally they look wank and I don't care, but this one looks genuinely quite interesting, just by dint of just leaning into having no budget and making a whole concept out of the minimalism.
  20. He hadn't been gifted it, just allowed to lease it, so there's nothing really unusual there. In purely practical terms I don't really care, they can afford a nice house wherever, but it is pretty stupid that Charlie is kicking out his son to let the nonce stay there. Like ffs. But we shouldn't forget that poor, helpless Charles who has never behaved badly to his children has no choice but to punish his underhand aggressive sneak of a son.
  21. Maybe they wanted Wendy to be the main character because she's the main character. Like, she always has been, she's the PoV character and protagonist of the original book, and the play (iirc, I saw it once when I was like nine I think) is based around her viewpoint too. It looks utter wank, but it's not because there's a girl in it. Hopefully it won't be accidentally racist like Ben Zietlin's Wendy apparently was.
