  1. Palace have had a real issue with renewing player contracts. They lost like 10 senior squad players on a free in 2021 and something similar happened last summer, including with Zaha who they'd been holding out for a big transfer fee on for like half a decade. Most of them weren't consistent starters by the time they left, but some of them were, and all of them needed to be replaced without having brought money in to do so. So there's been a churn of squad players while there's no money for new stars. It's not getting any better- there's a bunch out of contract this summer and while most of them aren't playing much, two of them are Hughes and Ward, both of whom play regularly.
  2. As far as I can tell RDJ had been a guy Hollywood had been pushing towards stardom since like the 80s or early 90s. He just kept getting in his own way. Sure, picking him right then was a gamble because he was only a few years removed from a series of very public crises, but he didn't come out of nowhere or anything.
  3. 'Lioness' and 'Suffragette' are both bad names because they just both sound really stupid to say. 'Gotta take the Lioness three stops' 'Running to catch the Suffragette' yeah okay. Should have called it the Pankhurst line if honouring suffragettes was what they were about. 'Weaver' runs into the same issue technically but it doesn't sound quite as dumb. Windrush and Mildmay are good though. Liberty is just the most boring name they could have possibly chosen.
  4. Within three months at Madrid he's going to be throwing a hissy because he has to play up front and not on the left.
  5. You can't 'told you so' about something before it happens, but also Guardians 3 made loads of money and people still talked about the death of Marvel.
  6. That win came in large part because ETH can, and is, finally treat McTominay as what he is- a forward. Normally he'd have brought him on for a midfielder and surrendered even more control but bringing him on for Rashford gave us his presence in the box while also allowing the midfield to scramble together some space while he chased Villa around.
  7. Man, I can't believe Arsenal are about to concede six goals in ten minutes. What a collapse.
  8. Arsenal further showing their immorality with this bullying. Touchline ban for Arteta pls. He's got a bit lucky, but I think the ref and VAR figured you can make case he came out for the ball and was trying to reach back as Saka knocked it past him. So they gave him the benefit of the doubt.
  9. That looks really good, but 'striking and original' is a bold quote when it's an arthouse X-men movie.
  10. I think you'll scrape by- obviously JWP and Kudus are the two best midfielders on the pitch but without Alvarez in there they're missing something Soucek doesn't quite make up for and you're definitely stronger on the rest of the team, especially since Aguerd is playing.
  11. I was making a joke about the American tendency to refer to teams as 'is' instead of 'are' but also even the Wild's wikipedia entry refers to them via plural pronouns and shit.
  12. Dunno how Tywin could possibly get that confused- it would be the act of a madman to refer to a team name in the singular.
  13. Cheers. I assume that means you can see at least my first post (that's what I was curious about, since some people I know can't see most of my thread). But yeah Putin is very clearly setting up language against Poland. It scares me tbqh.
  14. This is completely at odds with your dismissal of the show for 'woke'. edit: I see other people got there hours ago, but whatever.
  15. Could someone do me a favour and click through here and see if they can see this whole thread? A mate of mine is seeing some posts as unavailable and I'm trying to figure out why.
  16. Yeah it's not as if Pep doesn't ask his midfielders to be intense and even though he's always been injury prone he played a decent amount in most of his seasons at Bayern (and indeed his first two for Liverpool even though he wasn't really up to pace). Honestly think there's a decent chance Covid fucked him. That disease is fucking weird.
  17. It's becoming increasingly clear that KingAerys is working from (poorly understood) wiki summaries here because he hasn't read Tolkien's work.
  18. I can think of a few reasons why sin bins would be tricky to manage, but this isn't one of them. Either the fourth official or an extra official specifically there for that will handle keeping track of who's got how long (which, you know, will probably be done mostly by tapping a touchpad screen), and coming back on will be handled the same way as after off-pitch injury treatment- at the referee's discretion in the first available moment after the ten minutes. Which does sometimes generate a little bit of controversy but isn't distorting games or causing any significant fallout very often.
