  1. I'll fill a hole in C if there is one, otherwise I'm trying to stick with Experts, Dynasty, and B...
  2. I'm in. Experts, Dynasty and one other are my goals. For now.
  3. I'm in for the snake draft of B...
  4. Now now. You know how this goes, Charlie Brown. Lucy. Football. *WAUGH!!*
  5. I wouldn't be complaining for another hundred, hundred fifty pages of additional material sometimes...even if I'm not sure how that'd work...I hate when his books end...
  6. Been on the audio version of River of Stars as my latest Kay listen...maybe it's just Simon Vance's narration, but again my esteem for a story rises with a listen...I still can't rate Stars as a top five Kay novel, but listening, I do like it a little better...
  7. I just assumed he picked a gang he knew he could use... Though maybe that's something that'll come back to be revealed...
  8. Things been happening, haven't quite finished with the first book yet, though I've just ordered the second one...mind you, I've read this thread and some other stuff...so I have trepidation about that, but I'm going to give it a go...
  9. I honestly don't remember that about Carlo...but I agree that reading Seas right after Brightness may give a different interpretation. Children almost feels like a bastard step child...
  10. Gonna...resurrect...this thread. 125 pages into Gideon the Ninth. It's bonkers thus far and I have no idea where it's going. Hoping for some clarity soon... I admit I've read through the spoilers, and honestly, they really don't tell me much of anything...so that's good. Though it was nice to see my thoughts on the houses and where they're at was as obvious as I thought (even if it isn't accurate, at least I was thinking like some others...) And the above description of The Westing Game meets And The There Were None is spot on for me... Continuing on with the reading...
  11. Honestly, if this story was missing one element, it was lack of sustained antagonist, or at least an appearance of an antagonist. Most times, when you think you're supposed to be rooting for Folco, Kay then allows you to see the other side and you can't help rooting for Monticola...and then you go back and forth throughout the swell of the story as it goes back and forth. By the end, the loss, the sacrifice, the reveal, the journey that is revealed is just that more resonating. If that makes sense? I got that from Brightness. I got that from Lions. I got that from Last Light even...in All the Seas, it felt like that was missing in the end...or it wasn't as strong. I still do love the book! The trip around the world that was built, in so many places, I loved that. Mind you, i do think I'm supposed to think the "Seas of the World" is meant to be about the peoples of the story, not the actual sea, as there was only one in the book... I just can't place it ahead of some of the others.
  12. I loved All the Seas of the World...thought it had some upside and downs. I don't know that I rate it about A Brightness Long Ago, but it's absolutely stronger than Children of Earth and Sky...
  13. Whelp. Nothing done in half measures on this show...
  14. If Folco d'Acorsi isn't one of Kay's best characters ever, who is...?
  15. About 150 pages into Seas and it is absolutely fascinating in its structure...I cannot wait to see how this goes...
  16. I don't think that that matters too much beyond needing to read Sailing to Sarantium before reading Lord of Emperors...
  17. I mean, you've clearly hit upon the true, underlying theme of the entire movie...
  18. I know I need to revisit the series, but I remember struggling with it because it wasn't resonating with me at the time. But back then, I read to enjoy things without necessarily thinking about what I was reading. That's something that's changed in me over the past decades now...and it means I need to go back and look at things like this again...
  19. If Berlin's, "Take My Breath Away" isn't one of the greatest 80s love ballads, then what was the point of all of it...?
  20. I cannot do e-books. Just can't. I need the physical copy. That's why this weekend was such a disappointment when three stores didn't have a copy. Boggled my mind. Honestly, I read Tigana and Arbonne first amongst Kay's works. I know I need to re-read them both as it's been close to twenty years now since I read them...but I find myself so much more invested in the shared worlds of Lions and the other stories (even though I know Under Heaven isn't part of the shared universe, I still want to believe...) The Fionavar Tapestry...I actually haven't read the third book...
  21. And I was forced to order it. Will have it Tuesday...bah.
  22. I can agree with that. Though I do think Last Light also fits that somewhat. But this also reinforces what Longrider said, and I'll likely recommend starting with Under Heaven...
  23. One of the small business owned shops here in milwaukee I tried today also didn't have it, but they offered to order it for me. That defeats the purpose of putting it my hands now. That's my sad tale.
