Wheel of Time 5: The Shadow Downsizing [book spoilers]
Jace, Extat replied to SpaceChampion's topic in Entertainment
Fair. That suggests that Alviarin must have really believed she was a darkfriend, which was not the vibe I got from that scene, but that's fair. I take that back. -
No doubt, you're right about the transport system for all this equipment being destroyed. But the actual creation of most of the equipment (according to Speer) was humming along basically 'till the end. Now; they didn't have soldiers to use that equipment (try female soldiers next time, Germany), they didn't have trucks to get it where it needed to go, and they had no fuel for half this shit anyway. But according to Speer the actual production of guns and planes and bullets never stopped until the Allies physically captured the factories.

It didn't bother anyone else that an Aes Sedai used saidar to kill Siuan even though she was stilled and defenseless? That should have immediately revealed whoever did it as Black Ajah. -
Small quibble, Speer had the Nazi armaments factories still producing into 1945. They didn't lack equipment, actually they had too much of a lot of useless things like planes but no oil to fly them. But because Nazis are fucking dumb it was considered "defeatist" to shift production away from useless materiel so thousands and thousands of planes were made in the last year-or-so of the war that never got off the ground. Speer could have been lying, maybe, but he was quite insistent that production capacity was actually not affected very much by strategic bombing.

I believe it. Because I can't afford nothin' with all the $$$ I'm spending on Quaker's oatmeal. And these boi's, oh my god... every time I take the bits out it's always "we're cold" or "you don't feed us enough" and "why won't you let us go?" I ain't sayin' I'm offering a lucrative option, I'm sayin' I need the help!
-
I got a stable job for you. Twenty-six pony boys are living in my shed rent-free and turning an enormous amount of oatmeal into gargantuan piles of shit that get bigger every day. Running a boi harem is a lot more work than I was expecting. I can pay you eighteen dollars a day; hop a flight playa.

UK Politics: anti-corruption or auntie corruption?
Jace, Extat replied to Maltaran's topic in General Chatter
I need to check out the UK politics thread more often! -
After work yesterday I took my uncle to pick up his truck from a shop that installed a "topper" for him. I mention it because the owner of the shop and one of the employees brought up tariffs and started listing the parts (all of them) on the truck that are made in China, and how every aspect of their business is now up in the air because they don't know how they're going to get parts for their work. This is a truck modification shop, in Indiana, and these guys are almost certainly Trump voters and they were hot about tariffs. It's not much, they didn't say they were about to march on Washington or anything, but they weren't blaming Democrats. That's something.

Wheel of Time 5: The Shadow Downsizing [book spoilers]

I don't know what the fuck y'all were watching. That was a rushed mess! That was truly terrible. Turrable. They really need 10 episodes for these seasons. They need it bad. None of these moments have any time to breathe, Nynaeve overcoming her block leads straight into Siuan being deposed which leads straight into Lan seeing his countryman rejecting the shadow which leads straight into Rand breaking the Aiel which leads straight into Moiraine fighting Lanfear which weaves together with Siuan being killed after a shitty speech which weaves with the Aiel splitting apart which weaves together with Rand calling on saidin to make rain which ends with Egwene speaking for only the second time in the episode. Oh my goodness! That should be half-a-season of individual moments with their own build up and payoffs. Oh my goodness! -
Yeah, and then there's that fucking problem.
-
I mean, yeah! But then what? Who acts on that warrant? We are well and truly fucked
-
How? The courts have no power if the other two branches just ignore them.

I had the opposite reaction, seeing Pascal as Mr. Fantastic actually made me want to see it. I haven't watched anything Marvel since Endgame, but I'm interested in this one.
-
Yeah! Totally on purpose! (I can't fix it now)

That's really interesting. Now I wanna read that myself. The transition from Czarist Empire to Soviet Union is the biggest cultural shit in human history, probably. At least since Constantine converted to Christianity, I'd think. I didn't know Zhukov was a writer. Thanks for sharing your impressions. I'd be interested in hearing what else is in there, specifically if he had thoughts about the moral implications of the way the Soviets conducted war while he was the top military officer. Though I wouldn't be surprised if any such thoughts are not in the book, as they could possibly be interpreted as being anti-Soviet and get him in trouble.

No.

They'll just refuse to act on the warrant, or straight up lie and say "nuh-uh." That's what they're doing about the rulings now. I know. I just wanted to try and believe the best possible motives. I don't like thinking that fully half of my fellow citizens are... monsters. Or at least okay with being led by monsters so long as their personal circumstances are acceptable. That's a fucking horrible thing to believe about so many people. But there it is. I don't think liberals have it in 'em for full-on riots. And I don't think the most extreme lefties have the right politics to motivate some kind of mass resistance that operates off violence. What we need is a civil figure to lead massive, peaceful, protests like Dr. King. There should be tens of thousands of people on the streets every night in every major city protesting what Trump and his criminal staff are doing. But there aren't. There won't be.

Others have said this, but I'll say it too. The United States may very well have crossed the Rubicon of fascism this past week. Which is not nearly as fun to write as I was hoping it could be. But good God, it's just horrifying. This guy, Kilmar, oh my God! And the courts have zero power to do anything about the situation, which is exposing our chief executive as immune from law or consequence for his actions. This is it. This is the thing that either breaks the Trump fever or ends the republic. No one with even a shred of humanity can hear of what's happened to this man, the nightmare of his circumstances, and not know it's wrong. And that the people who've done this to him are evil. I've been a "not all Trump voters" person for a long time, because I would rather believe in the capacity of good people to make bad decisions than write off half my countrymen. But this is the moment, where you have to choose whether America, being an American, means at least trying to be good. Good countries do not disappear random people to nightmare dungeons, good people do not condone such things. This is the moment where, confronted with monstrosity of this injustice, a person will decide if they're even trying to not be evil.

Katy Perry is not an astronaut, is what he's saying. And funny enough, I heard the exact same on the morning show I listen to on my way to work.

Lindsay Graham was in my dreams last night and roasted me. Some friends and I were in a classroom, hatching some kind of scheme, when Lindsay Graham walked in. He said something, to which I replied "come out with us, man. Come on out." And he hit me back with "I think you've done enough comin' out for both of us." I and my friends laughed and laughed, and that's all I remember. What does it mean?

My mom was obsessed with that movie. Meanwhile, I tried to look up Charlie Sheen's "duh winning" moment earlier today on youtube (no luck) and now the algorithm is feeding me supercuts of Two and A Half Men... Look, I didn't have cable as a kid. I had the farmer's five. CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS, and FOX. That's it. And after school from 5 to 6 there wadn't much on. So I watched a lot of Two and A Half Men. I've probably seen every episode outside the last season. And I laughed. It wasn't the worst thing on TV. But I will burn in Hell before I watch a second, a segment, or a short of that show again. Let alone a fucking supercut. Fuck you, Youtube, for thinking to optimize the world so thoroughly that one fucking Charline Sheen search brings this blight upon my recommended videos. Fuck you.

We're pretty hyped for this tonight. Besides football I don't feel like there's much stuff that's appointment viewing anymore, and I'm pretty tickled to be anticipating a show so much that I made sure my evening was going to be free to see it.

That's fucking crazy. They did a blood transfusion in the field!?! Under fire!!???!! Were they carrying around bags of blood in a combat zone? Do you have a link to that story?
-
So you're a Malaysian, is that like regular Asian or a little different? Why don't you use the term "little people"? If you've been on so many mandates why don't you have more stories? And no matter what you say about the Dutch I don't think they have Crabs. "Escort" yourself to the looney bin, boy. You're not making any sense. (I may or may not have fallen back down the Jiminy Glick Youtube rabbit hole. I'll stop now.)
