On 6 August 1996, HarperCollins published a book it expected to sell around 5,000 copies in hardback. A tour in the US to mark publication of the novel, A Game of Thrones, saw “modest” turnouts of readers, admits its author George RR Martin. At one stop-off, in St Louis, that number fell to zero.
Did HarperCollins expect 5000 copies in lifetime total sales for AGoT? That seems quite low even for the time period.
@Werthead Am I missing something here?

But he may be less skilled than his reputation as more or less the most fearsome knight in Westeros suggests, because of the other factors.
I don't think Gregor is that skilled in the traditional sense of the word, but he makes up for it with his size. It's hard to beat a 7 foot ironclad monstrosity no matter who you are. And I don't think Oberyn would have beaten him if he didn't use a spear.

I think peak Robert could have beaten almost anyone. Against Arthur Dayne with Dawn, he probably wouldn't be favourite, but I wouldn't write him off either.
By the way, there is a great video on the topic.

Robert would win, Oberyn defeated the Mountain, I don't think Oberyn could have won against Prime Robert
I’ve been dreaming of a Westeros-themed Soul Calibur game for years, but that’s not going to happen.

GRRM likes to make things as difficult as possible for his main characters. So my guess is that if Sansa wants an annulment, she will have difficulty obtaining one.
On the other hand, there is a lot of story still to go through, so if Sansa should face difficulties, it shouldn’t be about getting a marriage annulment.

To be fair, Robert in his prime is often considered one of the strongest characters in the series.
There is actually a discussion on reddit right now about whether a prime Robert could beat the Mountain.
I don’t think Robert would win, but he would definitely put up a good fight.

Annulment for lack of consummation, presumably.
That would probably be quite difficult to prove, though.

Just a thought; wouldn’t it be better if the two volumes were published under different names, like Feast and Dance? Yes, that would increase the number of books in the series, but it would be much less confusing, IMHO.

At the end of the day, we can't know anything for sure until we get new material. And even then, GRRM might deliberately leave some mysteries unresolved.

Sansa (Lannister?) is legal wife of Tyrion. So unless High Septon cancels her marriage or Tyrion dies she cannot marry somebody else. After all in Vale the Faith of 7 has more political power than other kingdoms. Or there is a possibility that Sansa's status as married woman limits what kind of moves Littlefinger can do with her.
Yeah, how does Littlefinger plan to deal with that?

I think that the primary reason is Doylist: the Sweetrobin-Sansa match may have indeed been planned in ASOS, just scrapping 5-year gap has made it impossible, that's why GRRM introduced Harry the Heir in Feast.
Actually, GRRM talked about Harry the Heir before he abandoned the 5 year gap. Although it’s unclear what Harry’s role was supposed to be at that point.

I think Tywin wants you (and everyone else) to think this, and I think he is full of shit.
I see what you did there.

I would say not leaving with Sandor on the night of the battle.
I'm not sure I agree here. I think it was easier for Sandor to travel with the smaller Arya than with the older and bigger Sansa.
Sansa might not have survived an encounter like the one at the Inn at the Crossroads.

So I think there is reliable information in the first part.
There definitely is reliable information in that dream. The color of William Dustin's horse, for example.

Tywin is such a weird case. He's a horrible, horrible man, who's done some of the worst things in the series, but even then I can actually find one or two redeeming qualities about him.
I don’t think Tywin has any redeeming qualities per se, but I find it hard to hate him because he is a “stoic badass” right up until Tyrion’s final chapter in ASOS.

Because Renly is the brother of the usurper who killed Rhaegar and was fine with the murder of Elia and her children? Because he could never be their ally in a real sense. Also because jumping the Renly bandwagon would give House Martell nothing while causing Dornishmen to bleed for a false king.
But still, as others have pointed out, why continue with the revenge plot when everyone who was directly responsible for the deaths of Elia and her children is gone?

The idea that Gregor is the only rotten knight is what is truly insane.
As is the idea that all knights are rotten because Gregor is rotten, which is what Sandor subscribes to.

The idea that Gregor being able to be a knight proves somehow 'the chivalry system is rotten' is like saying one case of corruption in a parliamentary democracy means democracy doesn't work.
I completely agree here. It’s Sandor’s subjective opinion, which is based on his deeply personal experiences. It’s not an objective fact.

Because no one is willing to challenge it, and it absolutely needs to be challenged.
The right way to challenge the system is to change it for the better. You won’t be able to do that by being a grumpy drunkard like the Hound.
Sandor on the Quiet Isle is off to a promising start, though.

Sandor went against specific orders from his king, and more than once.
He did run over the butcher’s boy almost of his own free will, though.

If she had noticed him and had approached him he'd have likely given in.
That dynamic would have been quite interesting, even more so given that Arthur Dayne was Barristan’s sworn brother.

What I don’t understand is what Doran would do if Dany wasn’t married off to Khal Drogo and there was no pontential Dothraki invasion of Westeros. Especially since The Golden Company refused to support Viserys.

We don't know but from the number they gave us long ago, the consensus was that we will see all the dragons except Morghul, Shrykos and Stormcloud.
Speaking of which, there is a theory that the song Daemon sings to Vermithor is part of a dragon bonding ritual that was used in old Valyria, and gives the rider complete control over the dragon. Which the Westerosi valyrians seemingly never managed to achieve.

Yes, it absolutely was. But again, Rhaegar was obsessed with prophecy and probably believed that it was more important than anything else.
