Predict a bittersweet ending.

:agree:

I like this. Especially if it turns out that Tyrion is Aerys's bastard but still embraces Tywin as his "true" father

i just cannot take tyrion as anything but tywin's son he is the most like him by far. i can see at the end of the day he will look up and figure out he is just like tywin.

Bittersweet: Some people save the world but no one ever knows about it. Their names are erased from history. OR the people who save the world are misunderstood and maligned and history remembers them as the villains.

Absolute Bitter: Arya dies. Missandei dies.

Absolute Sweet: Dany finds a house with a red door and lives happily ever after. Jon lives, not as UnJon.

i just cannot take tyrion as anything but tywin's son he is the most like him by far. i can see at the end of the day he will look up and figure out he is just like tywin.

Ahhh the old "I am just like my mother/father" revelation. I saw two of those epiphanies in one episode of friends the other day. I hope George can do better than that.

Stannis dies saving the North from the Boltons and restoing House Stark (Rickon). Also Shireen ends up being sacrificed by Melisandre or something, therefore ending House Baratheon. Melisandre is killed for that, or killed by the others, or better yet she's killed by Azor Ahai. Davos ends up serving as a close adviser to Rickon.

Jon Snow ends up as Azor Ahai reborn, Arya is his Nissa Nissa. He ends up dying at the wall. Nobody remembers his true name.

Bran becomes an Old God.

Dany conquers the Seven Kingdoms. As it turns out, and as we have seen, she's not such a good ruler. Due to her infertility she dies without an heir, there is another succession crisis/civil war. The Seven Kingdoms become individual Kingdoms again.

Sansa survives but is extremely shrewd when it comes to politics. She somehow plays a part in the destruction of a united Seven Kingdoms.

House Lannister is ruled by Tyrion, though since all their gold is gone the Westerlands become somewhat of a backwater.

The Others are never truly defeated. They will eventually be back. The Night's Watch experiences a renaissance of sorts. Eventually they fall back into disrepair, for the people have forgotten them yet again.

Some other stuff...

All the Frey's get murdered. Arya kills Lady Stoneheart. Cercei gets killed by Jamie after all her kids die. Magic eventually disappears again for the most part. The giants, the children, the dire wolves, mammoths, ect finally go extinct. There's obviously more stuff but I'm tired, lol.

Since most people haven't yet clicked that Dany is vain and cruel, I am guessing the "bitter/sweet" ending Martin spoke of refers to these fans finally getting the wake up call and she gets replaced by Jon as the ultimate hero. That's basically the entire trajectory the series is taking. No rocket science here. It isn't hard to spot and it will be bitter/sweet for many fans who A, didn't click what Dany was becoming and B, don't yet know who Jon is (so it's the surprise for them, Hey there was another Targaryen after all! That's the sweet part.)

After a long and deadly fight the Others prevail, slaughtering all in their wake, human and dragon alike. The final scene is Benjen Stark stumbling upon the remains of Winterfell. "Guys I figured out how to defeat them......." Then he releases a guttural scream as he sees the devastation, from behind a wighted Jon Snow brings Longclaw down and removes his head in one stroke......fade to black.

Its bittersweet for the fans because we finally find out what happened to Benjen.

- Arya will never go back to Westeros entirelly. She will do some things there but will always return to Braavos because this is her true home now. She will have many faces but never that of a Stark again. So even if she meets a member of her family, she will not revel herself to anybody. This sounds bitter but in the end, nobody is able to hurt her because nobody knows who she is.

- Cersei and her children will all die. I can see the Hound choking her to death. The prophecy of Maggie was about the valonquar which means younger sibling, but is does not have to be her own younger sibling. Since the Hound is the younger Clegane, it would be fitting. The reason for this is what they have done to his brother - making him an undead soldier. He might have hated him but I think he has the opinion nobody should live like that. He will then fight his brother and burn him so that he is really dead and it would be a nice revenge for him.

- Dany will never go back to Westeros. Her dragons will act in her favor but in the end she will return to the house with the red door where she was happy. She will realize that she does not need the 7 kingdoms and the Iron Throne because all of this hasn't brought her family any luck. She may be settle there with Dario.

- Jorah will die for Dany, as well as Ser Barristan, who will have his honorful death as a knight of the Queensguard.

- Bran will never make it back to Westeros and will stay with the Children of the Forest. He will become the new Bloodraven and will see through the weirwood trees. He will be able to fly, so see what lays back behind and all that stuff but he will never see his family or anyone again. But he still has found his true fate. Hodor stays with him, as well as Meera. Jojen on the other hand is probably already dead.

- Littlefinger will rise very high first and prooves to everyone that a lowborn man can still be in charge of power. He has taught Sansa everything he knows about the game and this will eventually cause his own downfall. She will be more clever than him and will revenge her father and her entire family. He thinks he can trust her - his one and only mistake - and she will beat him in the game. Sansa will then return to Winterfell because she will realize that everthing in her life messed up when they went to Kingslanding and she never wanted any of this. She will be in charge of Winterfell and will build it up again after Stannis has beaten Ramsay Bolten.

- Stannis will get Winterfell back and tries to get his seven kingdoms. But he will realize he has to deal with the threat of the North, the White Walkers. He will die somewhere in the north, never making it to Kingslanding but defending 'his' kingdom like a real king would do. He is not Azor Ahai in the end but he will proove himself a worthy king, even if he will never sit the Iron Throne. Everybody will remeber him as a hero.

- Tyrion will return to Westeros with Aegon. Aegon might not be a Targaryen but the people will realize that he is the perfect king - the prince that was promised. He conquers the Iron throne like his ancestor Aegon did. Tyrion might be his Hand of the King then, but he never will find out where whores go. He ends up where his father was. Hand of the king, not being different from him.

- Jamie finds out that he and Cersei are not Tywins children, but Mad King Aerys. So he realizes that he has killed his own father and that he and his sister could have actually been toghether. But in the end he realizes that he never really loved Cersei and that she has become like the mad king, while he is the 'great' part. Two sides of a coin - one mad, one great. But he will keep this knowledge to himself because it does not matter to him anymore. He will get Casterly Rock, even if this is not what he wanted. Brienne will become his knight, for he will never be a true fighter again due to his lost hand.

- Brienne will kill Lady Stoneheart but first brings Sansa back to her. She does not like what Catelyn has become so she gives her the mercy of death after she has fulfilled his oath. She then returns to Jamies side and they work together - as descendants of Duncan and Egg.

- Varys will put Aegon on the throne, for he is what is best for the realm and the children. He will either die or serve as a Counsel member.

- Jon will be dead. He will end up as a White Walker and be part of their 'society'. He then has fulfilled his Night's Watch oath - bound to the Night's Watch until death. Jon will get to know who the Others truly are and what they really want. They make him one of their Commanders, his Uncle Benjen will also be amongst them. In the end he realizes that what they do is no good and he will become their Night's King, leading them back to the norh and living a peaceful life amonst the others. He will eventually get to know that he is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, but it will not matter to him anymore because he was a bastard his entire life and does not want to be a highborn lord anymore. After his death, all of what he ever wanted is not important to him.

- Melissandre will die together with Stannis, realizing that he never was Azor Ahai. She will see that light can not exist without the dark. Also she will know that there is not only one god and religion is only what people want to believe.

- The Martells will get their revenge but will see that it is worth nothing. Arianne might end up with Aegon or getting Sunspear.

- Theon will die the death of a hero, making up for the things he did in the past. He will be the one who kills Ramsey becaue of what he has done to him. Asha than gets the Iron Isles because the other Greyjoys will all die. She will proove herself worthy but will never forgive herself that she could not save her brother Theon.

- Sam will become the new maester of Kingslanding, not caring that he will never be worthy to his father. He realizes that his strenght is his knowldge and he will play a big part in defeating the Long Night.

In the end of the last book, it will still be winter, for the title is A Dream of Spring - spring being far away in the future and only a dream. All the great houses are pretty much defeated, leaving only one or two people able to rule. Aegon might be king, but as a good one to rule, he realizes that people need a change in politics, so he maybe establishes a new political system. This is what the people always wanted. This, of course, will mean that there will be fights about power again, but that it will always be like that.

Probably the best one on the thread.

Not my idea of perfect, but no doubt, there will be disappointments in the real thing too.

For the record, if any of most of these other ideas are what the real thing becomes, I will be mortally disappointed...

This is my bittersweet theory. It assumes R+L=J and A+J=T

Jaime will lull Brienne in to a false sense of security and then escape her, but not before impregnating her during sexy times.

LF will try to rape Sansa at the Eyrie but she will kill him, thus fulfilling the prophecy of the giant in the snow castle.

At Jon Snow's funeral pyre, Melisandre will see in the fires that Jon is actually AA. She will walk into the flames singing like MMD and sacrifise herself by giving Jon the kiss of life. The NW will either accept him or Jon will kill all those who opposed him. He will then fall in love with some one, possibly Val, and will have to kill her for some reason.

Victorian will blow the dragon horn and bind the dragons to him when he gets to Meereen but Daario (aka Euron Crowseye, assuming Daario= Euron) will kill him and the dragons will bind to him. Dany realizes that he betrayed and lied to her and Dany will kill Daario/Euron and the dragons will pass to her.

The dragons will set shit on fire and Tyrion might get trapped in them or walk into them willingly but either way Moqorro will see in the flames that Tyrion is one of the three heads of the dragon and sacrifise himself like MMD and Mel.

Daenerys will return to Meereen with Drogon and Jhogos Khalasar. After killing Daario and witnessing Tyrion be reborn amidst salt and smoke, she will ride Drogon with Tyrion on Viserion and begin her conquest of Westeros. They will probably assume that (f)Aegon is the third head but he is stirring up shit in Dorne at this time so there's a vacant dragon. But before she takes KL, she will somehow be warned of the threat of the WW in the north (perhaps Moqorro will warn her before his demise or Quaitge will tell her in a vision). She will chose to go north instead and will end up fighting the white walkers with Jon and her dragons. (Jon snow might hve also woken ice dragons from the wall). She will find out that She, Jon, and Tyrion make up the three head of the dragon theory. Jon and Dany will fall in love and Dany will get pregnant (because Quentyn, the sun as his house sigil, rose in the west an set (died) in the east, Gregor clegane, the mountain, blew in the wind of life and death like a leaf when he fought Oberyn and during Cersei's trial by combat, and the Dothraki sea has dried up and is dying) and drogo will be returned to her in death. Here's how. Okay, remember the prophecy of Azor Ahai said that he forged the sword Lightbringer and tried to defeat the others with it but it wasn't good enough so he found a lion and stabbed it through the heart to forge it but it still wasn't enough do he plunged LB into his wife Nissa Nissa's heart to forge it and that was enough and he defeated the others or whatever. So long claw is Lightbringer and Jon will first have to sacrifise Tyrion (the lion) and then Dany (his love). He will die as well, possibly sacrificing himself in the process of making another peace pact.

With the love of Daenerys and Jon, that will be three loves for each of the three heads of the dragon. Jon was responsible for Ygritte and Val's deaths, Dany smothered Drogo and killed Daario/Euron, Tyrion was responsible for the gang rape and possible death of Tysha and strangled Shae.

I like the idea that the nights king is Warging BR and the real BR is mormonts raven. That would be wild. It would also position bran to join the side if the WWs. He would possibly warg dragons or something to that effect.

The battle against the WW will take a long time (at least 9 months). During the war Sansa will find out Tyrion is at the wall and having killed LF will go to the wall. Tyrion and Sansa will fall in love and she will become pregnant as well. She will be devestated when Tyrion dies and during the battle will go into labor. After wards she will crawl over to Danys dead body and cut the baby out of her. Sansa will have three daughters and name the Rhaella, Lyanna, and Joanna, after the mothers who have their lives to birth the three heads of the dragon. Dany will have a son.

During the battle at the wall, KL will be being ravaged by a war between Tommen and Cersei and the remaining Lannister forces, the faith militant, (f)Aegon and JonCon, Myrcella and Dorne, Stannis(?), and the iron born who are still alive (probs Asha). Cersei will end up burning the city and most of the red keep but she herself will remain safe with Jaime when he arrives at KL after escaping Brienne. Tommen being killed will probably push Cersei over the edge, causing her to burn the city.

Mycella will be crowned Queen in Dorne. She will die in the war at KL, thus fulfilling the golden their crowns, golden their shrouds prophecy.

After the battle at the wall Sansa and the rest of Danys army will return to KL to find it burned and destroyed. She will burn all the lannisters she finds but Cersei will try to kill Tyrions child as revenge for her own children's deaths. Jaime will strangle her to death to protect them as she strangles him, thus fulfilling the valonqar prophecy and Confirming jaimes feeling that their lives are tied together.

The rest of Danys squad will proclaim Sansa queen because dany and Sansa were close and Dany told Missandei that if she and Jon were to die, she would want Tyrion and Sansa to rule. Sansa restores the Targaryen name to the iron throne by ruling and then passing the throne onto her daughter Rhaella and Danys son Rhaegar.

Arya will become a faceless man and the epilogue of DoS will be her sent to kill someone (Sansa?) (Jon's son?). She will ultimately remember who she is and spare her target and kill herself instead, as only death can pay for life. So Arya, in the end, did not stick em with the pointy end.

I don't think I missed anyone but if I did they probably aren't important and die.

Dany married both jon and tyrion, three dragons.
Tyrion out of duty and jon out of love.
Instead of aegon conqueror, two sister wives
We have dany revenger, two incest husbands
But jon died to saving the world.
Three dragons also died.
Dany sit on it with her spouse tyrion.
Queen dany and her dwarf king.

Bittersweet.

Jon dies fighting the Others.

Dany dies in childbirth.

Tyrion dies riding a dragon/Bloodraven into the Heart of Winter to save mankind.

Westeros is ruled by a Council of Seven including any of the following who survived: Sansa; Varys; Stannis; Davos; Arya; Bran; Sam; Mance; Blackfish; Jaime; Brienne; Pod; Jeyne; Howland Reed; other people who I can't recall at the moment--until such time as the baby king/queen comes of age.  The council also oversees the raising and education of the baby.

House Frey is gone.  The decent members who survived have gone back to the maiden names of their maternal ancestors so that the name of Frey will never again pollute Westeros.  Olyvar Frey was the Rosby heir, and lends his support to rebuilding of Winterfell and the realm.

Rickon survives to become Lord Stark of Winterfell.

Bran lives, leaves the cave (maybe going to the Citadel), and is the only person who knows that the greatest hero Westeros and the world have ever known was Brynden Rivers, who risked his life multiple times, defied convention, endured insult and innuendo, ignored whispers and suspicions, and gave his life twice to save the very people who mistrusted him.  A man of fire, who lived half his life surrounded by ice, in order to help find the balance that would keep them both from destroying everything.
