Season 5 Casting, News and Speculation V 9 [show spoilers, book spoilers past OP]

@alcasinoroyale Hardhome plot STARTS in episode 8 but it culminates mostly in episode 10 with Jon arriving and fighting. You can even see David Nutter filming him in the teaser.

You made a claim there that you can see Nutter.

@ctid1977 Lol point out to me where you see Miguel in the filming of Hardhome. Just because he's credited for episode 8 and that Hardhome appears in episode 8 doesn't mean that plot ends in that episode either. Don't you remember how Craster's Keep and taking of Meereen were handled in S4? Or even the battle of Castle Black? Or do you have bad memory?

I'm asking you to back up what you said.

I'm only doing that because you asked konrad to do the same. I don't need to as I'm not making any claims.

It's OK to speculate, that's what this thread is for. But expect to be pulled up if you base it on a bunch and then try to throw in proof that's not there. You might be right, it might be over two episodes, but there is no evidence for that yet.

I'm not sure he was really being that agressive. He said it's ok to speculate. That's what I've been doing for the story lines, and if we're wrong than so be it. I don't see a reason to report someone just because they don't believe what you say. Now if there are others beside you who also think that's its Nutter then I would give you more credit. You might be right considering that in the A Day in the Life special they said Daznaks will lead into the amazing hardhome. But until it is confirmed, hardhome being in episode 10 is just speculation.

"The. Director"

If Nutter was going to be filming on that set, he'd be on location as well with Miguel so they could duke out any problems that they would have with how their shots would line up. You'd also imagine Nutter's shooting Hh would take precedence over Miguel's suggestions considering he'd have the climax.

I just don't see Hardhome going into Nutter territory from what we know.

@alcasinoroyale To be fair Hardhome took like 3-4 weeks to shoot and it sounds like it could be the final part to Jon's arc. Plus there's a giant at Hardhome. Everyone seems to think FtW won't happen this season but I don't see the point in having it be an early S6 scene. Also, I saw a fat guy holding a camera towards Jon so I thought that looked like David Nutter. But I guess more than one cameraman works on an episode so we can't assume it was the director filming Jon.

Nah, I'm awake. Just drinking and trying to record something. Did someone say Carice? She's lovely. Her and Nathalie Emmanuel, man. Phwaaw!

BTW a bit of a Carice interview did come out yesterday. She said Mel had an interesting arc in s5 and that she saw nothing wrong with her scene with her and Selyse (mayhaps the interviewer tried to suggest it was gratuitous?). She said that because she's Dutch she's not afraid of nipples like some folks seem to be.

I've been rewatching Season 4 on the DVDs and it was interesting watching that scene again - I'd managed to forget the closing moment (I can't imagine why my memory was focused elsewhere!), when Mel tells Selyse that Shireen must come with them to the Wall. Any guesses or hints for whether or not that may come into play this season?

Have you listened to the commentaries yet btw? If so, how are they?

Some of them were pretty good - I enjoyed them more than the Season 3 ones. The all-cast ones are usually a bit silly (some of those actors have NO idea what's going on in the show, and that's totally fine, but if that's the case, I'm not sure why they're on the commentary!), but the ones with people involved in production are good. Alas, there's very little in the way of good gossip. The Jaime/Cersei Sept scene is in the only episode without a commentary, and is tantalizingly alluded to elsewhere: "The scene that everyone's talking about", or "This is the first time they've been together since the scene in the Sept", and you're left thinking "Come on, tell us what you really think!" It was fun listening to the Brienne/Hound actors talk about their fight scene.

As usual, I wish they'd said more about the writing - they gave a very brief explanation, for example, on why they decided to not bring up Tysha ("We already know that story", or something like that) and have Jaime and Tyrion part on good terms, but I wanted a lot more about that.

I assume a thread will open about the commentaries later, when the DVDs have their North America release in a couple of days.

To try to bring it back on topic: the commentaries mentioned that Barristan plays a big role going forward; I believe LSH wasn't mentioned at all; and there were a couple of other moments that would possibly count as spoilers for show-only viewers, but suggest they're following the stories from Feast and Dance, but now I don't remember what those moments were.

^Do you remember who in particular mentioned Barristan's role being bigger in the future? Was it D and D? Also, GrrM was on the commentary for 402 right? Did he say anything of note?

(Sorry to badger you, when I'll likely know this shit in a couple of days anyways).

No, not them - their commentary was for Episode 1 only, and I know the Barristan comment came later. Maybe it was Alex Graves in Episode 10? Now that I think about it, seeing as how Graves isn't coming back, maybe he's talking from book knowledge rather than show knowledge. (Or I could just be pulling an inadvertent Brian Williams on the whole thing.)

^Graves was told some of the upcoming info that D and D and Cogman were told by GrrM (certain characters fates etc.). In many interviews he talked about how he'd tell cast members certain bits of upcoming info and how they'd appreciate that and then change their performances accordingly.

Yeah D&D have done, I think, only one episode commentary a season. At this point D&D don't seem to want to talk about the writing. I wonder what Bryan Cogman had to say about the show this year?

George has E2 commentary but he wrote that one and pretty much his story, I wonder if GRRM will be on the season 5 DVD?

Margaery is who Cersei thinks it is, but it will most likely end up being Sansa. After what she was put through, she kind of deserves to be given a happy ending. But continuing on, Arya in Braavos. I don't think we ever got casting on the Waif yet.

I think Arya will end this season by going blind. There isn't really time for it to happen before that as she got training to do, plus killing that guy down at the docks before episode 9. I could see her first assassination spanning over episodes 6 and 7, as I imagine episode 8 will be stuffed with other big things. Hardhome, for example. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave that the Purple Wedding treatment.

Btw, alcasinoroyale, I'm interested in knowing how you think the Meereen arc will play out this season. You seem to have thought of most storylines.

Oooohhhh I want to more about the commentaries too. Could you spill some details about GRRM' s and Peter, Lena and Nikolaj' s. Those are the ones I'm most curious to see.

Too off-topic, and I didn't take notes!

That being said ... um, I'll put below in spoiler tags not so much because it's a spoiler as I'm acknowledging that it's off-topic but I'm doing it anyway.

GRRM's was enjoyable - the other actors did a solid job of asking him questions and creating a conversation that went fairly smoothly. GRRM, like several others on different commentaries, praised the changes that made Tyrion/Shae a wonderful tragic romance or something like that - it was enough of a pattern I felt like it was protesting too much. And I believe he didn't talk about helmets! The Lannister siblings were I'm afraid rather disappointing, with Peter occasionally trying to keep it together, Lena going off on tangents (one about a DJ did make me laugh), and Nikolaj doing an odd Darth Vader impersonation. I don't really remember details of Brienne/Hound, but it was just entertaining listening to them chat. Maisie/Sophie were two young women having fun. Both E09 commentaries were good, probably in part because the filming for that must have been epic and it was interesting hearing about the process. In E1, Pedro put in a valiant effort at trying to chat with D&D, but it didn't quite work for me.

My favourite moment was probably watching The Fallen panel, watching Pedro Pascal, and thinking how Oberyn Martell is almost impossible to see in his "normal" persona. The other actors "look like" their characters, if that makes sense, but whatever Pascal does to assume a different persona - wow. ("Acting!") Oh, and Charles Dance is far less intimidating than I would have thought. And Jack Gleeson likes bad puns.

As always, it's all very polite and friendly and complimentary and doesn't give us any of the dirt that we really want to know.

He'll probably be knee deep getting TWoW ready before S6 airs when they get around to doing the commentary (not sure when they record it).

I believe Dinklage mentioned they were recording it in July, so quite early. He hadn't started filming Season 5 yet, and was joking about whether or not he'd been invited back. Of course they may be recording at different times.

bummer. i had high hopes for the Lannister commentary as I remember Peter and Lena's commentary for the Blackwater episode was fabulous. I was at least hoping they would make incest jokes during the Jaime and Cersei sex scene lol.

so by this info I'm going to go ahead and assume that the Season 2 commentary is still the best so far because Alfie and Gemma, Peter and Lena, Nikolaj and Michelle, and Liam and Carice were hilarious during it.
