So, Aegon V's kids were 1/8 Targaryen, 1/8 Martell, 2/8 Dayne, and 1/2 Blackwood. Jaehyris II and Shaera, the same mix. Aerys II and Rhaella, the same mix. So, why is Dany the perfect Targaryen woman and the mother of dragons? Genetics. Whatever is the dragon-riding gene, she has it.

Orphalesion
I agree with Lady Blizzardborn here, it's pretty clear that GRRM is explaining Stannis' and Mellisandre's motivations and perspective here. He doesn't do it from their perspective (what was he supposed to do, get in-character as Mellisandre during an interview?) but it's clearly about their POV/desires/motivations. This doesn't come off as binding confirmation that the two are the same. Also I don't get why an author wouldn't do it this way? Authors come in all shapes and colours and handle their stories and characters in all sorts of ways.

But actually knowing people who write can sometimes be a benefit when it comes to discussing writers and what they say. Being a writer oneself is a step closer, depending on how one writes, how one thinks, etc. Understanding the mindsets and processes involved in writers writing, and writers talking about their work, makes a slight difference.
