The Dragon Demands
Are there any good cons in the NYC area? Even local cons, with good ASOIAF/GoT programming? Bizarrely, NYCC has had no ASOIAF ...OR Game of Thrones...programming in the past 3 years. This is really weird. So I figured this was the place to ask; anything within the train grid. And WHY doesn't NYCC have any programming? Even TV show programming? For 3 years running? Very, very strange.

Depends on how "NYC area" is defined. Philcon is a very good general con (dates back to the 1930's), and takes place in November in Cherry Hill, NJ, a short NJ Transit train ride from Philadelphia Penn Station so relatively easy to get to from NYC Penn Station. There was some ASOIAF/GOT programming at it last month, but being a general con it does not focus on any single interest. https://philcon.org/ Coming up in February is Boskone in Boston at which several of the BWB often attend. I'm planning on being there, it is a good general con and may well have some ASOIAF/GOT programing. http://www.boskone.org/ Note that these cons are volunteer organized and operated, and the programming depends on interested fans getting involved and proposing panels or other activities to the con committee. Boston is an easy Amtrak train ride from NYC.
The Dragon Demands
Good to know. Ah, I don't think I'll be able to sneak out for such a day trip. Damn it...how can such a large city have such nonexistent cons? I mean like Dragon-Con or something in Atlanta, Los Angeles, always seems like they have a lot of fan programming. ...anything BWB related in NYC five boroughs or Long Island/Westchester? Knight of City of Bayonne
There have been some trivia contests at bars/restaurants in which some BWB members participated. There is a GOT Meetup Group also: https://www.meetup.com/New-York-Game-of-Thrones-Meetup/ and a fantasy meetup that has had some GOT themed events: https://www.meetup.com/NYC-Area-Friends-of-Tolkien-Fantasy/ A few BWB informal gatherings, especially when a member from out of town mentions here or on Facebook that they will be visiting the city. Very little program space (most hotels could not accommodate a convention, and then you jump immediately to enormous spaces like Javits Center), and astronomical hotel room rates means that it's nearly impossible to have a convention in the five boroughs. The ones that I do know exist are either very small -- maybe 100-200 attendees -- or huge like NYCC. There are no official BWB events scheduled in NYC for the nonce. The next time any number of us will be gathering is at Boskone in February. I don't really follow what other fans in the city do, so I can't speak to the events that SKS found. But they might be worth a shot.
The Dragon Demands
Well I ran some panels at my local con out on Long Island but they only had 20 people at best (which was a good size relative to others there, at such a small convention, barely restarting after financial problems for years). I was just wondering "wow, for all I know there's some huge convention I know nothing about on the other side of the city". Crud. In the unlikely event that next year we get like, a Game of Thrones cast member or something on the guest list, I'll check back in...

Padraig
Most definitely not the con people would expect, but GRRM will be attending a con in New York in 2018. Thrillerfest.
