It is, but I personally would have been disappointed to change back to jeans after the ball. If I’m going to be a princess for one day, I don’t want to change back to jeans when the clock strikes midnight, you know. :dunno:

I understand. It is not like it was obligatory to change at any point, everybody was free to stay dressed as fancy as they wanted to for the afterparty as well. We just mostly did it for practical reasons.

waltz dresses are usually rented (having one made is fancy allure of fancy kids - like sister - but even she is going to sell it to a salon after prom) and I had also rented my ball gown. Sister bought her party and dinner dresses but both are high street occasion-wear (so they weren’t particularly pricey either) so she can wear them any time in the future when she goes to a party or there’s a special occasion. IMO, it’s a good investment to have a couple party/elegant dresses because the time WILL come when you don’t have time/money to get a new outfit but you have to go to a wedding, an engagement/anniversary/birthday/anything party and you just need to be able to whip out a dress from your closet.

Oh, I see. I don't think anybody rents a dress here, I have never heard of it. And they are generally the kind of dresses onw would not wear to anything even slightly less fancy than a ball. Maybe mine is, just a bit less fancy, but I never wore it again either. I probably won't, unless I get it corrected a bit. Don't want to get rid of it though, sentimental value!

As for expenses, every family indulges their graduate child according to their budget. Sister is (and so was I) fortunate enough that our family can afford to indulge her every wish for her prom and I think if a parent can afford to deliver their child’s dream for a special, one in the lifetime occasion, they will do it without a second thought. Or at least I would, if I had a child. Having said that, sister is quite a bit spoiled, indeed.

Sure, parents just have different priorities. And I am not sure how it was at your place, but here all the attendees had to pay quite a lot just to attend, which alone might be a lot to some families.

I do not know how my parents would react if I said I wanted two different fancy dresses for prom. But that is not the norm here and it would stick out a lot.

See, there’s the common sense in lavishness, it gets your makeup right :P seriously though, I think it’s only right that an 18 year old isn’t skilled at makeup and doesn’t know what she’s doing. If she is, when and where did she start, at the age of 13 with falsies and full coverage?

Yep, completely right about that! Where were you to tell my 18-year-old self that? :p

Well, there were some girls at my school who wore a whole lot of make-up to school every day at the age of 13-14-15. And I cannot imagine their mothers doing it for them every day ... so yes, people do start early with it.

6 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

You’re not alone with that. And then I’m highly selective of the people who approach me so why am I even surprised that I don’t have a relationship and I haven’t gone beyond three dates in like two years. Oh well. I’ll get there. Or get a buttload of dogs. No, I’m not a cat person.

Buttload of dogs is always a good option. But I do wish you find a fulfilling relationship you dream of too. ;)

So I met up with some friends tonight for the first time after forever. I need to prove to the world and myself that I do not only live for work, I guess. :D

So how is everyone’s weekend going?, mine is good so far apart from a scary thing happened to me yesterday, like really scary, I had gone to meet a friend and see thier new place that she’s got with her bf and when I was leaving I set off down this road-it’s quite a small narrow road and as I’m coming round the corner this HUGE truck that could barely fit down there came up the road really fast and I had to swerve onto the pavement/sidewalk to avoid him going straight into me, and when I beeped at him he shouted a load of horrible things at me!, mini Sith was in the car too, I got the licence plate and the company name I don’t know what to do, like report it to the company or tell the police or just let it go?.

Normally someone driving like a bit of an idiot doesn’t bother me, but this is a huge heavy truck and it was quite dangerous especially with the amount of damage something like that can do, if he had driven in to me I’d be in hospital right now at the very least.

Oh no...that sounds horrible! I hope you can do something. Not sure of which move to do here, maybe both actually, call the company so that his bosses know about that and also the police.

I'm actually very sensitive to this kind of things. Some people are just blatant idiots. And it's awful bc normal people should not deal with that. At all...

My weekend was really good.  I went to town and despite being veery cold and misty (2-10ºC),  I spent the whole day and night socializing and the lake looked so beautiful...

Thank you all, I’ve decided to just report it to the company and hope they do something about it, I have a camera system on my car that is built in so I’m just figuring out how to download it so I can show them how bad it was!.

The weather today is just dull and grey and murky here, I think I’d prefer it if it did snow, at least it would be exciting!.

I see, if you had one dress you danced in and all, I guess I can see why people would want to change. It’s not like big fluffy dresses are suitable for modern day parties.

My dance dress had a marvelous second life, it was reused for various purposes. We cut off some of the frills for an art project of sister’s at some point, and later she used it in theatre, in a play she did with the school. I don’t know where it is since then, maybe the school or the theatre kept it or they got rid of it. I don’t miss it.

No, that’s not customary here. Family members just pay some symbolic amount for  the “ticket”. There wasn’t any food at my prom, but there’ll be “dinner” at sister’s, so we paid maybe €10 per person for that? Something like that.

In junior year and I wasn’t  familiar with GoT or this forum I’m afraid

yeah and that doesn’t usually look good either. And when it does, it’s scary.

Sure, me too. I just won’t settle for anyone, settle for anyone~ (god you guys did this to me, all the song references)

Yay  it’s very important to have a life beyond work. I have a couple friends to whom you could pass down this wisdom. Hope you had fun!

It was raining here today, but they promise snow next week.

That sounds great! Glad you had fun!

My weekend wasn’t social because a friend (who could learn that work life balance value from Buckwheat) cancelled our Saturday plans. But my weekend was still great because I decorated for Christmas!!!!! :commie: :commie: awww it makes me so happy to have the place looking festive!!!!!!! It’s not ready yet but it’s looking great :commie: and on that note, allow me to brag a little and show you this elf/santa/cute creature arrangement. Is it not the cutest thing you have ever seen? I’m so proud of myself.

Oh I’ve not decorated at all for Christmas yet, I suppose we will have to go and get a tree and I will have to find the decorations, my fiancée did it all last year because I was far too pregnant by then , I have no idea where she’s put everything.

Also I am going to call and email that company in the morning.

Lastly I have to confess, I bought Fire and Blood on my Kindle yesterday, it’s pretty interesting although it does kind of read like a homework textbook, it does confirm the awesomeness of Rhaenys and Visenya though (I’ve not gotten past the first few years after the conquest yet)

Thanks! This is a pic of the sunset

I'm sorry, I know when that happens and it's very disappointing. I'm also positive about balance value thinking. I might not socialise as much as...maybe 7 years ago back in my "clubbing" days?, but I do much more this year than the previous one bc it makes me feel better and I wanted to change that.

Sometimes you just have to try to spread the value of relaxing to others. But yeah... I also have friends who are very into working, and I know it's hard sometimes. Or sometimes it's just a matter that they really couldn't.

So....YOUR SANTA-ELF is hypeeeer cute!!!!!! :wub:Yeah, probably the most cute Xmas thing I've ever seen, because it's very original-out of the ordinary. I mean, I love the pine cons and the cutie nose :P

I wanted to buy a polar bear this year but I have not still decided myself. I'm also really looking forward to decorating the house, though!!!!!

Oh mine is still in my wardrobe. I am glad yours got reused sensibly, I am too sentimental when it comes to throwing stuff away.

Oh right. We had dinner for everybody, which was ... okay, but not the best food I ever tasted or something. But it was much more expensive, like 40 € per person or something, if I remember correctly.

I call this a grand life achievement. Now if only I could convince any of my RL friends to watch that series.

Poor guy! :O It looks like he will be hit the next time somebody opens that door! You should move him to a safer place.

I still think it is too early to decorate for Christmas/New Year, but I am glad you had fun. :)

And I definitely don't recommend anybody to take advice on work life balance from me of all people.

So I got a response back from the company being very apologetic, they have reviewed the footage I emailed and thier own from thier truck and they decided it was so bad that they didn’t give him a warning (he had one before so they say) and have fired him, the guy seemed really genuine and said he has kids too and that kind of behaviour is completely dangerous and unacceptable from thier company.

Glad they listened to you and took action. The important thing is, you are both safe.

Yes this is by far the most important thing, I just couldn’t help thinking though, what would have happened if we were just crossing the road with a buggy and not in a 2.5 tonne SUV, or if someone else was crossing the road while walking, it doesn’t bare thinking about and I’m glad they have fired him!.

This one is the smaller, there is another one much bigger from another store :P

Maybe one day you can make good use of it.

And wow that sounds kinda pricy. Did these tickets serve as fund for the prom? Or was the food so good?

Good luck with converting RL friends too!

Noo, he’s not in danger that was just where he was assambled because there’s a socket next to the door and I needed to plug in the glue gun. Since he’s been ready, he lives on a side table.

Well my work life balance this week is kinda non existent too. I went to the office a 8am today so I could leave early and I ended up staying till 6pm... :stillsick:

Oooh that’s very pretty! Is the weather still mild enough for outdoor hanging out? It got really cold here on Tuesday.

Oh thank you. The elf was so cute and so cheap and I couldn’t leave it behind. But I’m glad I actually did something with it, instead of just tossing it on a windowsill.

I agree with Buckwheat that we need to see the polar bear.

I’m really glad you got such a thoughtful and fair response. Seems like a very responsible company. Hope the driver will take some time to self reflect, learn the lesson and drive safely from now on.

I might start a microjob for extra cash this week as a tutor if they like me. Kinda scared. I used to love it but it's been a long time since I don't do this.

Thanks. Well, at town it was a little bit cold in the afternoon, but not bad, you could still walk outside. Problem was that as hours passed by, it became colder. At around 1 am the temperature was 2ºC and there was a lot of mist! So the jacket you wear during the day might not be useful at night, XD.  (or it's me who refuses to accept that "winter" is here and doesn't wear appropiate clothes..).

But here in the city it's better. At night or early morning the temperatures are not dropping below 7-8ºC, and the afternoons are mild, like 12-15ºC.

Yes, better put it in a place where it is more visible!

I do not remember towards what the money went ... probably the dance school who organises proms has a lot of profit from it. And the food was not so good to warrant that, no.

Hopefully! :P No luck as of yet.

You have a glue gun? So crafty.

Hope you can get off work earlier today and tomorrow, and then it's weekend.

I have my computer back! :commie:
