Cregan's role in the story they are telling in House of the Dragon really picks up in particular AFTER the war is over. So if the show ends near the very end of the war, with very little of the aftermath, then Cregan's importance in the telling of the story is reduced. Starts to matter less what age he is. There is no way that the show ends without the Hour of the Wolf. What would that even look like? We see Aegon II dying and cut to black? No explanation, no follow up, no end of the war no coronation of Aegon III or wedding to Jaehaera, no conclusion to any character arcs other than for Rhaenyra and Aegon II amd others who are already dead?! Sure, I am with you there. Some of the best stuff is after the war.
King_Tristifer_IV_Mudd
I think the show should end with the Widow Fairs, and with Cregan and Alysanne crossing the Twins back into the North. Considering that’s where GoT starts

Yea, what possible motivation would HBO have to inject a romance between a Northern girl and a Targaryen (sort of) prince in this story? He is fully Targ Prince. Just not a Velaryon. But the Strongs themselves are a House of interest, with I suspect more to be revealed about their lineage.
