Northwind
Connie Nielsen - probably the best choice Emily Deschanel - looks mostly like what I pictured of Catelyn Deborah Ann Woll - seems to me like a grown-up Sansa, so maybe...

WightMeWorry
Connie Nielson - the ultimate Catelyn, tall, elegant, strong... she's maybe too old now--OTOH, if we are to believe she's had five kids with modern sensibilities for childbearing years, maybe she's still the perfect Cat. I think she'd be really interesting to watch if she was paired with a bearded Mads Mikkelsen as Ned. (she's got the same vibe and acting chops as Tricia Helfer--if they were both cast it would be fun but extreme overkill). Anne Dudek - actress on the career upswing... maybe has the reverse issue, can we believe she's had 5 kids. Too my mind has the right kind of beauty for the role as a high-born medieval lady. after that, I'm leaning towards these two Kelly MacDonald Natascha McElhone Gillian Anderson and Miranda Otto are interesting suggestions... they'd both be fine... I think I'm just holding their previous iconic roles against them and biasing my votes on fresh faces. Regarding Kate Winslet, she must be auditioning for for Cersei--do a Google search for "Kate Winslet Steven Meisel Vanity Fair" to see her in her semi-nude blonde glory reclined on a wolf pelt. (NOT SAFE FOR WORK). She's so consistently good in everything, but maybe too high profile. She could easily play Cat, Cersei, Lysa, Varys, Grenn, any number of people and be excellent in the role. freakinmayhew
My first choice is Debra Messing. She looks exactly like how I envision her in the books. I've never seen her do drama, but I think she could pull it off. For some reason seeing the chick from Will & Grace clawing her face up after seeing her son die amuses me very much. Behind her, I like Natascha McElhone and Gillian Anderson. They're both classy, elegant ladies, which is how I see Catelyn. Connie Nielson might be okay, I just don't like her all that much for some reason. As far as age goes, I think she should be played by someone in her late 30s or early 40s. A lot of the suggestions just seem too young. I know in the book she's in her mid 30s, but I picture her older.

This HBO series is just that: a series. Not a movie. TV actors often branch out and do movies, but, honestly, what is the likelihood of an actor or actress taking on TWO shows at once? Unfortunately, yes, it looks like she'll be busy with her new series and it probably won't happen. And Evangeline Lilly is way too young-looking. Would anyone look at her and believe she has a sixteen-year-old son?
