Bormon
Rebecca Romijn? She's a film star, and nothing in her experience makes me think she could pull off a complex character like Cersei.
FWIW, Rebecca Romijin is one of the stars of the show Ugly Betty, where she plays the Sister (after a sex change) and CEO of the magazine. Not that she plays the part well and IMO would be a terrible Cersei, but she does have experience playing a complex character. I do agree with you though, these A-list actresses should be kept off the list.

Smoldering Hound
The list is based on the official list. The Poll is your ranking of those on the list. Well, there's two schools of thought on the lists. One is: put up actresses you actually want to see cast. People just need to be ON the list for this to matter. Second is: put up actresses who have the look you'd like to see in the character because the casting director ain't gonna be listening to us anyway. This is the reason to have a ranking, and why A listers also have a place on this list. You don't like a listers? Order ALL the choices and put them last below the most inappropriate non-a-lister. I've done that for a number of characters, This one just happened to be an exception for me. Note that ranking a gazillion actors/actresses takes a bit a time, which is what's slowing down my polls. Also "don't care" is a legitimate ranking. if you want to list your favorites, then tie all the rest in a "don't care" status, then list your least favorites (with the actual least favorite last), this voting system can handle it. (just be sure to actually copy paste ALL the names in your "tied for don't care" status, as any that are missing will end up getting ranked below what you put down as your least favorite for your vote). My problem is that as the first vote, I don't have that luxury. :(

palaeologos
Sarah Michelle Gellar My God, I don't know who most of these women are. Scarlett Johansson looks amazing, but I'm not sure she has the range for Cersei.
Smoldering Hound
While commentary is fine, please do follow it with an actual vote via listing actresses in preference. By editing your post. Only the first reply by a poster will be used in a vote when I calculate....which I plan to do after listing a few more polls. Edd stark is taking me forever. antisocial
Tricia Helfer That is the face that appeared in my minds eye when I first started reading the books. (yes only about 2 years ago) She does sensual to dangerous to out of control angry to manipulative so very very well with her "6" character. And she does it without any over acting. That and after all these years of watching BSG, I still have a school-boy-crush on her. Edit: Her front page on Imdb doesnt do her justice, you have to see her "6" pictures just to see how stunning and beautiful and Cercei she is. Soft and dangerous, and she does it damn good too Cercei...errr Tricia Helfer

WightMeWorry
1) Sophie Myles (classical, softer look, brit) 2) Diane Kruger (classical, more angular) 3) Tricia Helfer (played Cersei(Six) on BSG--too hard/modern looking?) 4) Yvonne Strahovski (need to de-Bunny a bit--looks good dolled up in Maxim spreads, will she look good in medieval garb?) 5) Kelly Carlson (ditto) 6) Romola Garai (prettiest one on the list, can do costume dramas in her sleep but can she be convincingly petty, ruthless and impulsive?) [Gretchen Mol is also like this, always comes across as the sweetheart, never the viper] 7) Julie Benz (played Cersei(Darla) on Angel--too western?)
