Metal Thread II: Son of Metal Thread

Pretty much any song by 3 Inches of Blood is fucking awesome. That is one band that I must see live asap.

Agreed.

I like some metalcore precursor bands -- Rorschach and Shai-Hulud and the like -- and I'm a big fan of hardcore and the hardcore-crossover bands like the Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front, too. In any case, glad that we have some newer blood in the thread!

I don't have much to report right now. I went apeshit on Primordial last week, but this week seems to be Emperor time. We're having a party this Friday, and I'm wondering just how much I can get away with on the playlist before one of the guests makes pointed comments. Bathory? Azarath? Borknagar? Edge of Sanity?

Oh yeah. Azarath. :stunned:

Gut-shredding Polish death metal that puts Behemoth to shame. But holy gods, it is not one for the stressful days. They definitely fall in with Anaal Nathrakh: like being bodily flung through a curtain of large fish hooks. (I have the album Diabolic Impious Evil.) Still, if that's what is called for that day, I can recommend for the sheer ugly brutality of it all.

Oh man, I love Alestorm and their pirate-metal. Really a shame that I'm not getting to see them live this year. Their new album is quite fun despite a few weak songs.

Keelhaul that filthy landlubber, send him down to the depths below!

Make that bastard walk the plank, with a bottle of rum and a yo-ho-ho!

Right now my favorite band is High on Fire, great sludge band. Their newest album has some really interesting middle eastern sounds. And the have the coolest drum sounds, it's kinda like tribal-y.

After them, I am obsessed with death is the answer to my prayers from Early man.

Never got into High on Fire. Just didn't stand out for me. As for your other band . . . that is a long name.

 Can't say I have heard of them.

Edit - Confusion taken care of. *Never go full retard. I will check out Early Man at the first opportunity.

Currently sampling some Alter of Plagues - Earth as a womb Think Primordial.

Agreed on Azarath. They've been darkening my days for the past couple of weeks.

Does High on Fire have a new album out? I really enjoyed their album from '07.

I'll have to check out Alter (Altar?) of Plagues. If it is anything like Primordial I'll probably love it.

Early Man are like The Sword -- they never met a Sabbath song they didn't like. ;)

They're definitely fun.

Oooh. Altar of Plagues looks very interesting. They're on Profound Lore along with Amasoeurs, Saros, Krallice and Hammers of Misfortune. I'll check out their Myspace page later today.

I've added about half of my songs to the playlist so far. I wimped out and did not include Azarath because it's simply crap party music, unless all of your friends are misanthropic mutants who communicate with grunts and hand-gestures (surprisingly, this does not describe most of my friends -- shocking, I know). But Edge of Sanity, High on Fire, Gojira, Borknagar, Arcturus, Bolt Thrower, Galahad, Kylesa, Behold! the Arctopus and a whole host of others are already in there. (I also threw in some Bessie Smith, Artie Shaw, Cab Calloway and Chet Baker.) Mr. X's contributions will at least be occasionally recognized by the kids, but he's got his own obscure punk rock aesthetic. I can only hope we send our guests home with bleeding ears and all the makings for a crushing hangover.

Very agreed, they are great fun live. A little ragged when I saw them, but still good. Plus, the lead singer (crazy, crazy poofy haired man) and guitarist came out into the audience after their set to listen to Tyr, which was cool, not many bands seem to do that.

Also, brief treatment of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme in No Quarter? Awesome.

I do. I've discovered a lot of new bands that way (or was able to check out recommended bands before buying). I need to be more diligent about listening to it, though. Usually it's only at work when I have to edit something and the people around me cannot just STFU. oh yeah, and same username there as here.

motherfucking deicide! last night i saw them in virginia. i have been a fan of theirs since their first album. you just cannot hate god and the church the way glen benton does. they were fucking epic live.

the opening bands were not bad either. from delaware there was a death metal band called nightfire, and all from local virginia areas a jam/prog/death outfit called croatoan, and a fantastic death/thrash band called krass judgement.

i am not a big guy at all. the pit was pretty weak. i was shocked. i expected better from deicide fans. a nice fight broke out though and a good third of the pit was rounded up by the security staff and escorted from the show.

my girlfriend went with me. she is not a metalhead at all. but, i look over at her at one point and she is moving her head to the beat of 'sacrificial suicide.' it was awesome that she came along. she has a whole new understanding of me, metal and its culture. she rocks!
