So if ugliness is such a critical component to a person's value, why don't you post a link to photo of yourself, Heal? Ideally on Hot or Not, holding a paper saying "Tyrion Lannister is a worthless ugly dawrf, LITTLEFINGAR RULZ!!!11!!"

You've kind of got a Draco in leather pants thing going on for LF, btw. It's pretty obvious that GRRM wants us to be impressed with LF's cunning, but he's not someone we are intended to sympathise with. He's a creepy, obsessive, would-be molester and stalker, as well as a lying sack of shit and a user without any evident moral compass. We should love to hate LF, not love him.

For that matter GRRM has said that he enjoys writing the Tyrion chapters the most, and the character he personally identifies with the most from all his works is Abner Marsh; the ugliest man on the whole Mississippi River from Fevre Dream. There's something messed up if you come away from his writing thinking physical appearance is a vital necessity for human worth.

Well, I get what people like about Tyrion - I just don't agree with them :) But then, I also dislike such fan favorites as Sandor and Bronn, and I don't mind Cat and Dany (and even don't hate Lysa).

I don't get how anybody can like Cat on any level... besides maybe sympathizing with her as a mother. She treated Jon like a bastard (Uh, well, ok, she was way more of a bitch to him than she had to be. I could see resenting him some, but telling him he should have died? Also, every single Tully but Blackfish is utterly incompetent. The only good ideas Cat ever had were telling Robb not to trust Theon and to keep his wolf close. If she weren't so utterly incompetent or were better at getting her kid to listen to her, those might have actually come to fruition.

Okay man I'm obviously over exaggerating about the whole ugliness thing I just don't think Tyrion is all he's cracked up to be.

little finger is a very impressive player but he only looks out for little finger and has no morals whatsoever to get in his way or slow him down

Tyrion still has some morals is constantly trying to do the right thing, witch in the game of thrones is a good way to get yourself killed (NED)

Varyes has them both beat for all we know he doesn't actually ever lie or commit any evil acts, he is not even trying to gain power. for all we know his sole ambition is to make the relm a better place, and he still manipulates everyone and everything and no one suspects a thing other than he knows way too much of what is going on

and this may sound weird but varyes has the advantage of not having genitalia

little finger is still pining for the girl that got away

and Tyrion is a horny little shit that just wants to be loved

This LF VS Tyrion argument is fun, but like ogbebaba already said, I believe both would easily be beaten by Varys (although I think he has a more 'sinister goal than keeping the realm at peace).

I wouldn't even be surprised if he was somehow, directly or indirectly involved in everything that has happened until now.

Too bad we never got & probably never will see his POV.

lol@ the emphasis of him being a dwarf and ugly are important ... why?

I think people like Tyrion because he's relatable. He's an underdog, he's got good and bad in him. Most importantly (I think cersei said it best) he wants love more than anything, and that's why people root for him. Tyrion has been on trial his whole life for being a dwarf, and as readers, we get to be inside his mind, and we're angry at the people who judge him superficially.

I also think it would be unrealistic if he "Joined up" with Dany as easy as becoming a facebook friend. I think he wil be on his own for a long while, and will probably not meet Dany or join up with her. More likely he'll meet Arya, imho.

Tyrion is, to me, the most human person in the series. There is just so much love and care put into his character. He's cunning and intelligent but flawed in many ways, inside and out. Yet despite that, he perseveres.

Then again, the same things could be said about Samwell and I can't stand Sam's POV.

Here's my recipe for success= Samwell - 200lbs + sarcasm - lots of whining + courage - more whining + a big heaping pile of bitterness = Tyrion. XD

I count this as a point in his and LF's favour. Getting into cersei's mind resulted in decayed respect for the character (is there a term for this?)

No term, but it might be a phrase like "familiarity breeds contempt". Cersei seemed so cunning and powerful against Eddard, but Eddard didn't really know what he was doing and half of it was luck anyway.

"Even a stunted, twisted, ugly little boy can look down over the world when he's seated on a dragon's back"

Isn't it awesome? I hope it's a foreshadowing of Tyrion's dragonriding!

Yeah, I've always taken that line combined with the saddle thing as enough foreshadow to slaughter a quartet of Renly Baratheons.

Tyrion is my favorite character, however, because he brings me the food porn.

I like Tyrion alot and think he has many very fine qualities - which I think its a shame that his father and sister don't recognize or at least won't admit. While its true that not everything Tyrion did fell out the best way I think that he is among the those of the more admirible characters in Westeros.

Not to say that he don't do stupied shit from time to time or has vices - but I think that he isn't dominated by them like some others.

Robb died because of his own stupidity. He's supposed to be the King of the North. You can't blame all the problems of the Stark kids on Mom. Even releasing Jaime from Riverrun had absolutely no effect on the war - Jaime was already dead to Tywin, who appointed Tyrion to Hand immediately. What was "incompetent" about Catelyn?

I don't get how you can like Jon so much. Let me guess, you're a teenage emo kid?

I know exactly why Dany needs Tyrion at her side.

I agree that one of Dany's biggest weaknesses is her youth and ignorance.

Tyrion is very well read, and an educated man in Westeros is a rare thing. Even Maesters - like Aemon - are impressed with his knowledge.

That, and he speaks or reads Valyrian.

This fact, combined with his fascination with history and with dragons, means that he may be one of the only people living who knows how the dragon riders of Old Valyria tamed the untameable. I bet Tyrion knows enough about the subject to figure out how to train a dragon - something Dany does not know. Her Targaryen relatives were not around to provide her with that information.

He may not become a dragon rider himself, and he may not be a romantic interest of Dany's, or the mastermind behind the throne, but he would certainly be helpful at her side as an advisor.

Tyrion doesn't even have to be likeable for scenario this to work. Personally, I think it would be great to see a character get cool points for being a nerd and a bookworm. ;)

I agree with Winterborn that the possibility of Tyrion being able to help Daenerys to train her dragons will be his chance for acceptance, as well as that he is one of the few in Daenerys presence that has a relatively current view of the political situation in Westeros and the main players.
