Stannis and Tywin?

Stannis doesn't lie especially not to Davos.

How can you possibly know this? Words are wind and Stannis has as much opportunity to lie as anyone else. If anything this shows he's willing to lie to himself because he knows that he was there, he dreamt of the killing and the news matched his dream. He's not stupid and knows it was something more than Mel seeing it in her fires.

They seem to be very much alike in a number of ways. They both prefer to lead their armies from a strategic advantage point, they both are excellent strategists and they both are powerful leaders. On top of that both of them seem intelligent in terms of running a kingdom.

Why is it that nobody seems to give Stannis his due in terms of ruling the seven kingdoms. So many people seem to think Renly would have been a better leader than Stannis and all he did was wear nice clothes and smile at tournements. In what ways do they differ?

Do you mean book characters feel that way or readers? I haven't seen that many readers say that. As for the characters, many thought they could control Renly, all thought they could get something good from him, & hey everyone likes to feel good! It's like voting for an attractive liberal, you think you're going to get free stuff, they sound & look good, then suddenly everything goes to crap.

A more apt comparison would have been Bush over Gore when he ran on tax cuts over the guy who said we should pay down the debt. Isn't it funny how times have changed?

But that's not what Dany did. Krazynys was not murdering children, nor do we have any evidence that he was a sadist.

Eh, 8000 babies that were killed in training of the Unsullied Kraznys had at that time wish to disagree. Also, one of the Unsullied would like you to suck his one remaining nipple and rethink your comment about sadism. :(

Of course he knows Renly was going to die. That's why he went to Storm's End, since Mel told him Renly would die. But that doesn't mean that he thinks he had anything to do with it. We know from Cressen that Stannis doesn't lie, and even if he did lie, Davos is the last person he would lie to.

You're right. I forgot about the baby killing thing, and the nipple cutting off. I suppose Krazynys deserved it.

I agree. :agree: And so would almost anyone who's studied psychology. Cognitive dissonance is a very common phenomenon.

"The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool."

~ Richard P. Feynman

"Lying to ourselves is more deeply ingrained than lying to others."
