I don't get why not though? This is how skyscrapers are built. Only now we have cranes.

Just from the descriptions of where it is and how it is positioned. It just feels to me implausible to built a castle onto a mountainside. Off the top of my head I can't think of any historical or even modern examples.

I think there's likely spells (the way I don't doubt that Valyrian steel is infused with sorcery to keep it sharp). But I guess in the same way that I think Valyrian steel is mostly just a technological advancement (albeit with spell enhancements), that's kind of what I wonder about with this concrete business.

That makes sense then. Descriptions of Dragonstone certainly sounds like stonework being poured from molds rather than being carved.

Do you have similar issues with Minas Tirith?

The positioning is more extreme than precedents (and there are ancient castles built in mountains, like the Minoan ruins, Himalyan temples to name a few), but the physics does check out. It someone wanted to build on a landscape like this, it could be done.

Things like "Cat is a bitch devoid of personality" really rustle my jimmies, as Florina would say. It's pretty hard to incur my wrath but that does it for some reason. ;)

I don't think cat is a bad person by anymeans, in fact I really dog her bad ass lets kill them all attitude, however given all the political and military blunders she makes it is hard for me to really like her.

I love how crazy illogical that statement is. Surely a 'bitch' must be a person with a strong personality, else why the nasty label? Sentence should read: 'Catelyn is a rutabega devoid of personality'- that would be logically consistent!

Hmm. Maybe I'm just imagining it wrong. :/ I'll take your word for it. :)

I don't really have an issue with Minas Tirith, because I don't expect anything to be realistic in LotR, :P I mean, indestructible towers, treetop cities, massive hollowed out mountains... none of it is realistic. Most of ASOIAF's buildings are.

you should inform them of their stupidity, though I doubt they can even comprehend the magnitude of their own idiocy.

Nevermind the wargs, dragons, bloodmagic, and ice demons. Now that is realistic...

My least favorite elements, to be honest. I'm rooting for magic to be destroyed, good, bad or otherwise. I confess that I hate magic in ASOIAF and generally.

I was talking about the buildings though.
