[Possible Spoilers] Five Worst Actors

Hitler didn't speak with Austrian accent at all, neither did Schwarzenegger since he was from Steiermark where you speak another alpine accent. But how he spoke in his first movies kinda established the way Americans think how Germans talk English, like not capable of pronouncing the "th". They only hardened the consonantes to sound more "Prussian".

I am sorry but I think we are going to have to agree to disagree here.

He did not speak in an Austrian dialect but with an Austrian accent.

Yeah, should have put "dialect" in there instead of "accent". My bad.

I'm surprised more people don't mention Aidan Gillen as Littlefinger. He was fine in season 1, but after that he started to overact like hell. Just listen to some of his lines and tell me it doesn't sound extremely forced.

Case in point:

I think most people are trying to mentally block him out, that's why.

Just on a sidenote, anyone think Varys looking close to tears in that scene was majorly OOC?

the Spider isn't the sort to betray his emotions in such a way, particularly in an open court. *shrug*

LOL her accent sounds contrived? What does that even mean?

.

I thought Shae (the character) was supposed to speak with an accent. What I meant is that the actress seems more concerned to speak maintaining that accent instead of performing. She didn't sound to me as a German speaking english with a German accent, but if a German native says she does sounds German, so be it.

Still a bad actress, though  (and nothing to do with porn)

Overall I find the cast selection and acting on the show to be outstanding.

But the few instances of really bad acting that always stand out for me are:

The stable boy Arya stabs: just....cringe-worthy each time I've seen it.

The actress delivering the "poor nose" line to Bronn: same reason as above.

Sophie Turner has been amazing for the first 2 seasons, but far from it so far this season. I think mostly due to some bad writing for her.

Not impressed with Aidan Gillen in Season 3. The S3:E5 scene between Sansa and Littlefinger discussing Sansa's change of mind re leaving with LF was awful. Both actors seemed uncomfortable and completely unconvincing in their deliveries. Aiden appeared bored, sleepy and gave a pedestrian performance.

I agree with all those who wish Kit Harington could vary his facial expressions..

That's not true. In a blog post the actor stated that it was HBO's decision and that he would be happy to return if they wanted to. Look it up.

I reeeeally love Emilia Clarke, I think she's ethereal and charismatic, but she could do with a few more classes of acting, IMO.

And again IMO, the problem with Carice isn't that she's a bad actress, but that she doesn't seem to be trying at all.

I'm sure he is happy to return now but for season 2 he was still shooting the hobbit was he not? :dunno:

I'm going to list them by their character names.

Bad:

Ros and the rest of the prostitutes

Everybody from Qarth

Lancel

Shae

Talisa

Sansa

Bad, but not as bad as the others, and may have more to do with crap writing than acting: Robb, Dany, Littlefinger

On Jon: He is pretty damn emo and grumpy in the books, other than when he is around Arya and Sam. So, looking like he is constipated all the time is oddly fitting for how I imagined his character.

Nonsense, the spice king was awesome :box:

Hard to pick 5 favourite because I think that they are all tremendous. Even the "weak links" in the cast are 99% better than most leads on other shows (especially american ones). Besides it is hard to says whose better because some actors are just lucky to play more complex characters than others.

IMO consistently the best 5 performances:

Robert Baratheon

Cersei Lannister

Tywin Lannister (best actor on the show IMO)

Joffrey Baratheon (it is extremely difficult to make a one dimensional psychopathic character interesting and fun to watch)

Stannis Baratheon (I do not share the Stannis!love with the rest of the fandom, but boy that actor just blows my mind every time he's on screen. How can he manage to portray so much with so little?)

Also really really good:

Jaime Lannister

Theon Greyjoy

Arya Stark

Sansa Stark (loved her performance in 2nd season not so impressed with the 3rd but I think it's because she's mostly allowed to be herself and did not have to hide her feelings. Once shit starts getting real I think she'll be great again.)

Tyrion Lannister (absolutely great but took me awhile to get used to his annoying accent)

Catelyn Stark

Davos Seaworth

Ned Stark

Jon Snow (I know I am alone but I love Kit's portrayal of Jon and think it is very consistent and true to the books)

The worst:

Yara Greyjoy

Littlefinger (good actor, terrible portrayal: the shifting accent, the wooden delivery of every speech, totally charmless behaviour)

Talisa Stark (her character might be the worst written on the show but the actress didn't bring anything into it either, just completely flat)

Margaery (don't know if it's deliberate but she "acts" in every scene, saw an interview with Natalie and she was exactly the same in it)

Mance Ryder (totally unimpressed but he had so little screen time so it's hard to judge)

There aren't any horrible actors in the series IMO, but there are some who aren't as good as the others. Like Sibel Kekilli, she just makes me cringe so much. I can't stand her scenes with Tyrion. And don't hate me for this, but I don't like Thomas Brodie-Sangster who plays Jojen Reed, doesn't look a bit like I imagined him and his acting is a bit over the top. He's still good though.

5 Least Favorite Performances in the GoT series (nice way of saying worst actor lol)

5) Sibel.....the one who plays Shae, though I do think most of it is due to how she is written but Sibel doesn't help matters.

4) Aiden Gilen..... A good actor but by the time the series is over, we are going to need subtitles to understand him. WHERE'S RACHEL!!!!

3) Carice Van Houten....I actually think that she can turn it around because she does look the part (enough) and has the accent but she has a very, very robotic delivery. "Looktoyoursinslordrenlythenightisdarkandfullofterror" The last episode (3x6) where she showed some emotion while speaking lends me hope though.

2) Emilia Clarke.... the WHURR R MAH DRAGONS line might have been poor writing but the face she made while saying it was on her. After she was done she looked like she was about to laugh. She's not always terrible but whenever she has scenes where she needs to emote, she either doesn't or is so over the top that it sucks all the drama out.

1) Kit Harrington.... Essentially Kit Harrington playing Kit Harrington dressed as Jon Snow.

Sophie Turner has been amazing for the first 2 seasons, but far from it so far this season. I think mostly due to some bad writing for her.

This is the problem with judging "good acting", since a lot of people seem to confound good characters with good actors--it's no coincidence that Williams and Dinklage are heralded as some of the best actors.

In this case, i think Turner has completely nailed her position in the script with every scene she's been in. But the scenes she's been in haven't been so good...for example, Turner gets the "do you think they'll let my family come" down very well, but it's stupidly OOC for Sansa to say.

I thought that was the point. LF was trying to pressure her into revealing why she didn't want to stay, and she was trying to stonewall and deflect. They are both distracted since they are reading way into each other's words and trying to think out what they are going to say next.

MAISIE WILLIAMS > Than every other actor in the series!!! Where on earth did they find this girl? Does anyone know, if she has read the books(I know she might be a bit young for them)? Very bright future in front of her.

Other than the porn star, I can't really knock the acting on the series.

This won't be popular but in my opinion Alfie Allen did a terrible job in the "game"/torture sequence of The Climb. He did not sell being fatigued, starved and terrified looking more like a child faking illness to stay home from school. Sure he screams well but the rest of the scene didn't sell it for me at all.

I do not enjoy the HBO Loras Tyrell. He's supposed to be one of the greatest upcoming knights in the realm, not a complete ninny boy. Its ironic that they took what could have been a great anti-stereotype character and turned it into a super stereotype.

Yara Greyjoy didn't quite do it for me either.

Everyone else is at least fine in my opinion... unless Tormund does not give us a HAR.

I know Maisie has trained to be a dancer (she still does) and I think she said she went to the GOT casting just to try acting and to learn how the casting process works, before GOT she never had an acting job, she is just crazy talented. And she hasn't red the books because her parents think she is still to young, but her mother has and she tells her what happens to Arya in each book.

On topic: I think Kit needs to improve, and Emilia too. And Aidan Gilles accent annoys me most of the time. The rest are great IMO

In Finn's defense, that isn't really his fault as an actor--it's what he's been given. Which annoys me to no end, but I'm not going to blame Finn for that.

Honestly, I think that's where a lot of these actors are being let down--is the writing. While some actors are able to make even shitty writing good...you have to be of a certain calaber for that. And most of them aren't up to that level.

Like, I'm enjoying Emilia this season a great deal more than I did last season--where I thought she overacted (now I realize it was more the script than her).
