[TV & Book Spoilers] Littlefinger's Monologue

I found this to be my favorite scene in this episode and it had me shivering from the first line. Of course there's a bit before with Varys but I think this truly unveils how Littlefinger sees the game he's playing and how people ascend into it. I find it interesting that it focuses on the sobbing Sansa when he talks of those refusing to climb, I'm thinking we've got some serious foreshadowing there. As for Ros there's a different thread for her but I'm personally fine with her departure. We've seen how Varys is someone who you don't want to mess with (that scene with the sorcerer from some weeks back) now we get to see Littlefinger's claws and I just want to see more. I'm supposing that last scene where Sansa was watching the boat was certainly him finally leaving for the Eyrie.

he says "illusions" meaning that the realm, the gods or love aren't real and only the ladder is.

I totally agree with you. Sansa's crying watching the ship and Ros' gruesome death made that monologue very intense. In my view, it also justifies Vary's line about LF "He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes."

I get that Sansa was crying because she had just found out about her impending marriage to Tyrion, thereby dashing her dreams of being Mrs Loras Tyrell. BUT why was she watching Petyr Baelish sailing away whilst she was crying? I didn't get the relevance.

Because Littlefinger had offered her an escape from KL which she declined because of the betrothal to Loras. Now she wished she had taken it.

I was looking at the season 3 promo again, a little bit of it was left out (they refuse, illusions) but the timing of the shots, is roughly:

Well, each line does fit the characters' situations well enough, except maybe for Jaime, whom I would've put with "but they refuse..."

I was thinking the same, and also Sandor, they did sort of climb by joining the Kingsguard. Jaime had to stand by while the queen was beaten, Sandor had to stand by while Sansa was beaten. They both had bad experiences with it. And both walked off the job!
