Lemon of Lemonwood
I cannot keep but wonder:is Joffrey's poisoning an outright breach of Guest Right or,taking into account the reasons behind it,can be considered an act of self-defence?It has definitely not received the uproar the Red Wedding had(quite the contrary ;)) and even G.R.R.Martin hasn't treated them as harshly as the Freys. mrunderhill
Funny enough I was thinking about the same thing after watching the episode. I would say yes. The Tyrell's breached guest right and did the same thing Tywin planned to do to Robb.

mrunderhill
The Tyrells are the guests, not the hosts.I am sure the rule applies both ways. Or else you could just get invited somewhere and slaughter your enemy with impunity. This Tradition is vital for a society like Westeros to have any order. Littlefingers In The Air
The Tyrells are the guests, not the hosts. Guest right calls for neither guest nor host to take up arms against each other after you have eaten the hosts salt and bread
Milcov
The Tyrells are the guests, not the hosts.Hospitality rules in real life worked both ways and I'd guess it does in Westeros too.
Usrnmhsnomning
I suppose you could argue that once Margaery and Joffrey were married, the Tyrells were no longer guests any more than the Lannisters are.
Bright Blue Eyes
Partially. Margaery wasn't a guest but the bride and an inhabitant of the Red Keep. But the QoT and Garlan were guests.Fortunately, no one suspects them for it.The Tyrells are the guests, not the hosts.Doesn't matter. Guest right is mutual. mrunderhill
I suppose you could argue that once Margaery and Joffrey were married, the Tyrells were no longer guests any more than the Lannisters are. This would make it kinslaying, which is equally as bad, but no the Tyrells were still guest and violated the right. If Margaery was involved then she played a role/broke three of the sacred Traditions: kinslaying, kingslaying and guest right violation.

Lissa Nymeros Martell
It sounded like it was Littlefinger's plot. The QoT just gave Sansa the poisoned hairnet and told her to wear it. And since Littlefinger wasn't in attendance at the wedding you could make a case for it not being a violation.
Nyrhex
It was breaking guest right, as that works both ways.It was kinslaying, after they were wed. It was regicide, according to the belief that Joffrey was Robert's heir.Garlan didn't care. Garlan took care of his baby sister.
Lissa Nymeros Martell
:agree:I imagine breaking guest right is like perjury. Either you care if you do it or you don't. It's not like the gods are prone to intervene either way. At least, they haven't yet. :)

liberal teapot
I think that it is, it is at least Regicide, and not long after the Reach comes under attack from the Ironborn. I don't think that the two are happenstance.

Kinslaying happens all the time whereas guest right violation is rare and despised by everyone in Westeros.
TalalOfDorne
Yup. They are as vile as the Freys in my eyes. They just had the wits to keep their role secret.
