will coldhands make an appearance in the tv series

Sam reads. :)

You have to remember that content within different mediums doesn't necessarily translate between each other. Books, particularly, can be absolutely exhaustive on detail, adding memorable small events that are ultimately inconsequential to the overall plot. It makes the world itself more believable, but when you're limited by a runtime, things are quite different. Case in point - Tom Bombadil in the Lord of the Rings. Wonderful character. Not a movie character, though. His appearance would only muddy the narrative.

I doubt it, thought he might turn up in s4 and they were just keeping him out to save money on casting an actor for that season. Bloodraven has been cast for this season, telling us that Bran & co will reach him this season, and since it was his job to get them to bloodraven it would be this season or nothing for him. But so far it seems that no coldhands actor has been cast, its not impossible to say he wont be cast, but time is running out in casting season and its looking unlikely. He could still appear if

A. GRRM will give him some added plot significance in tWoW or aDoS, giving the show reason to put him in after S4

B.He is actually Benjen (or a character we have met before) and its a returning actor rather than a casting, but i dont go along with those theories

sorry, looks as those coldhands is a casualty of casting for the show

I think that, unless he has some significant role in WoW or DoS, that Coldhands stands a good chance of being cut from the show.

Now he would be a visually amazing character on screen. A sentient zombie with a massive flock of crows riding a supernaturally giant elk would be awesome to see.

But he really only has two purposes in the story: escort Sam and Gilly to the wall (which was accomplished without him in the show), and escort Bran and friends to Bloodraven. The second could be accomplished by Jojen, who seems to have some weird supernatural gps (he found Bran in the middle of nowhere last season).

I hope so, but if they were planning to have him in the show why not keep in his interaction with Sam.

If they move his introduction to Bran's storyline they can add in some drama and extend his ADWD chapters a little longer. In the books we only see Sam and Coldhands together very briefly because he meets him at the end of a chapter and then we don't see them again until Bran goes through the Wall. On the show it'll have more of an impact if Coldhands saves Bran instead of Sam.

It would be kind of silly for him to not be in, so I'm still holding out hope. I mean it seems like his identity will have some significance in the series' endgame and at the very least it would be a bad move for them to strip anything out of Bran's already sparse material. The mystery of who CH is could fill out an episode or 2 for sure. Getting rescued from Wights would also provide some good, early season drama.
