But up until that point, I'm sure you could find most Velaryons having some form of claim. Victor227 Posted July 22, 2014 Share Posted July 22, 2014 The Velaryons lost a lot of power after the Dance. Driftmark was sacked, and Spicetown was burned to the ground, and was never rebuilt. By the time of the main events in the series, they've a pretty small fleet, and a smaller army, and aren't mentioned as a trading power anymore. Martells and Baratheons definitely have better claims, as they married into the main line later in time. Baratheons in particular, as they were technically part of the line of succession to begin with, with Robert (now Stannis) being the closest relative outside the main line. Lady Laena Velaryon was even the chosen bride for King Viserys I after the death of his first wife and queen Lady Aemma Arryn, but she chose instead to marry Lady Alicent Hightower.. It is hard to know the answer, as we do not have much information on the Velaryons after the Dance of the Dragons. There appears to be less information about the Celtigars in terms of which families they married into, and their features. With the exile of House Targaryen, only the Velaryons and Celtigars are the major noble families of Valyrian descent.. And most probably, they would chose to marry within those circles as well as we known that Valyrians are almost all about "keeping the bloodline pure".. Aside from the each other, i think that the Velaryons and Celtigars would choose marriage partners with some houses with traces of Valyrian blood probably like the Baratheons, Martells and Arryns other other minor Valyrian noble families in Essos particularly those found in Lys or Volantis.. As long as Stannis was on Dragonstone they probably were in his camp. (Stannis complained that the Celtigars were out, but nothing about the Velaryons). We know Jon spotted some Velaryon banners when Stannis came to the Wall, so some of the Velaryon men are at least still with him. But since Stannis sailed to the Wall... My guess is they are with Stannis, but are not actively backing him, and if Loras really conquered Dragonstone their loyalty will quickly shift. He can't discipline Crownlanders for backing the Crown. The Crown is their natural liege. He can discipline Stormlanders (Conningtons), and he can discipline the Darrys through Hoster Tully for not backing their liege.
