fitheach
I'm pretty sure GRRM once said that he envisioned Rowan Atkinson as Varys. I may have just made that up, though.OMG! That would be brilliant! Think of Rowan Atkinson in Black Adder=wickedly talented man. But then I think of how amazing Hugh Laurie was (pre House), and don't get me started... red snow
[quote name='red snow' datSticking with ideas of British actors, I wonder if they could get a hold of Mark Warren for littlefinger? I think Eddie Izzard would have nailed the role 10 years ago but he may be too old for the part now.Eddie Izzard is actually great for littlefinger. He can be "youthanized" on stage, and still is young enough in spirit and heart.Too expensive tho?I imagine availability may be more of an issue than cost but he defintitely has the range to be disarmingly menacing and could deliver the sarcasm well. FaZe
You guys have to consider Lena Headey for the part of Catelyn Stark. She's perfect. Good luck!

About Yea High
Aw, Phoenix, you got my hopes up that we'd had another Dave & Dan sighting.Though if they're busy keeping Game of Thrones rolling, hey, stay away boys!Another possibility is they are both working to help Amanda Peet not get killed when the world ends in 2012. dragon wolf
LOL! I had to look her up. Amanda Peet is HOT! Holy Crap! This guy gets to produce the next big fantasy franchise AND go home to someone as lovely as that? Congrats!BTW, I see a perfect Catelyn Stark here...I see Lyanna Stark actually. She may not be the right age, but she would certainly have the right "look" and attitude. Besides, Amanda Peet might be a little too big to commit to a larger part. But it would be absolutely tragic for her to NOT have a part in GoT.
Valithor
It is critically important that the younger generation gets bumped up by a couple years for this show to be successful. I respect Martin's desire to stay true to the world of his book and show how young this new generation is when they take over, however it will not be believable and it will distract the viewer from the plot.Perhaps the age is appropriate to the medieval setting, but it is very difficult to relate to in today's perspective and the concept of the 6thgrader assassin, the 3rd grader adventurer, or the sophomore king will not connect with the audience. Now, should you be forced into a situation where you have them all at the age they were in the books that is ok, it is a trick a good storyteller picks up on right in the beginning and it's called travel time. If you age every character a year per season(like the actors playing them) by the time King Robb feasts at the Red Wedding he will die a young adult but adult indeed. I do hope that you cast all of the characters at least a year or 2 above the book though. This series has so much potential but I would hate to see it flop due to a lack of connection with the audience. I can't believe anyone here has imagined Jon Snow to be a 16 year old with Ygritte, or Robb even younger as king. Bran is one of my favorites but he is not at the stage in life where a teacher would use a puppet to teach to him. Good luck on all this. I do hope that you keep ages in consideration while casting.this should be far more mature than chronicles of narnia(I liked it but it was a child's movie and book, this book is NOT meant for children and I feel that he series should reflect that) Edited July 29, 2009 by Valithor
dragon wolf
I think GRRM is on record as saying that if he had to do it all again, he would have "aged up" the characters. I doubt he will be a stickler for the ages to remain the same. There is just no way that underage actors will be allowed to sex scenes, even on HBO. The dwarf porn is another story though. :DIt is critically important that the younger generation gets bumped up by a couple years for this show to be successful. Padraig
Its been confirmed that the Stark kids are around 3 years older. Robb is 17 for example.
Brude
I see Lyanna Stark actually. She may not be the right age, but she would certainly have the right "look" and attitude. Besides, Amanda Peet might be a little too big to commit to a larger part. She actually is, in many ways, very right for Lyanna - attitude and look. As for committing to a longer term series, she was willing to commit for "Studio 60," though it got canceled after the first season. But doing a TV show is obviously not something she's adverse to. Paying her fee is another question. Studio 60 was a huge endeavor with multiple major stars, but it was coming from the people who made West Wing, so they were willing to pay that kind of money in hopes lightning would strike twice. Halfhand
I expect she wouldn't demand too much money seeing as how a) Lyanna is a cameo role and b) she's married to the guy running the show.
Brude
Well, yes. If she did a brief spot as Lyanna, it would be a cameo. I guess she could pass for Lyanna, though Lyanna would probably be no more than 20ish at the time of the war (depending on how the time-lines in the show shake out). She still looks young, but having seen her for over a decade now in so many roles, it's hard for me to think of her as 20 (I'm the same age as her). I was saying if she took a bigger role, like if she was Catelyn, but I think I somehow forgot to make that clear in my post.
