Dune was a popular book quite soon after it was published. Awareness of it spread very far from the then niche sf audience. University professors even read it -- read it aloud even, for instance, traveling in groups to Mexico for spring break. So last night the cops invaded the Fashion Institute of Technology to arrest and clear out the students. It was the last encampment in Manhattan. The admin had been cooperative -- the protesters were uniformly peaceful, leaving to attend their classes, etc. But then, BOOM. In my own personal experience, which happens to be ongoing right this minute in my own neighborhood, the violence doesn't come from the anti-Israel violence protestors but from the NYPD and the never say pro Israel violent, "counter protestors."

Not to mention the divisions in the House.
