  1. According to some fans, Ned's honourable personality is more typical of an Arryn than a Stark due to him being fostered by Jon Arryn, and the "real" Starks have a similar personality to Brandon. I don't necessarily agree to a 100%, but I can see that point.
  2. Are there really no other banks to borrow money from than the Iron Bank of Braavos? Maybe some other banks have lower interest rates?
  3. Not really a meme, but apparently, maester Yandel moonlights as a pop musician in his downtime. Or was this before he became a master?
  4. Renly wants to seize the throne by force because he thinks that he would be a better king than Stannis. But I as a reader haven't seen anything that points towards him being a good king.
  5. He was also the king's brother, so he could probably get away with slacking on the job.
  6. But wouldn't that mean that the entire small council serves an advisory role? We know that Littlefinger and Tyrion had the practical task of providing money for the crown as Masters of Coin, so that doesn't seem to be the case.
  7. Given how rampant corruption was, I think it's safe to say that he failed as Master of Laws.
  8. Did we ever find out who sent Mandon Moore after Tyrion? If so, then I completely missed it.
  9. I won't claim to be an intellectual powerhouse, but even I only understood it after reading your post twice.
  10. I would imagine that such chapters are quite difficult to write. Ned was really a one-off scenario.
  11. At least Davos is a more interesting “camera character” than Areo Hotah.
  12. GRRM did say that he created Davos because he needed to show what happens in Stannis camp, but didn't want Stannis himself to be the POV.
  13. To be honest, if we ignore the show, I have absolutely no idea what the fate of Stannis will be in the books. But whatever it is, it needs to happen soon, since there are only supposed to be two books left.
  14. It's definitely possible. But since the show has its own separate canon, we can't be sure if it means anything for the books.
  15. In any case, it seems like they got an informal vacation. I would almost call them lucky if they weren't killed in the end.
  16. You may be right. It was established in season 1 that the dagger/prophecy are connected to the White Walkers, so this might be some sort of follow-up on that.
  17. I guess they haven't been asleep for thousands of years, then.
  18. For the most part, young people tend to fall in love more easily than older people. Wasn't Barristan in his 40's during the Harrenhal tourney?
  19. Also, I am by no means an expert on human behaviour, but Barristan’s unending love for Ashara seems a bit odd to me. If he was going to have lasting memories of an unrequited love, wouldn’t it make more sense if it was someone from his youth?
  20. Sure, but I don't understand why GRRM would "wrestle with Jaime and Brienne" if Jaime is just supposed to die in Lady Stoneheart's captivity.
  21. For what it's worth, GRRM has said that he was "wrestling" with Jaime and Brienne in one of his TWoW updates, so I don't think that is likely to happen.
  22. At least it made sense given Tyrion's emotional state at that time.
