Crackpot Time / Rhaegar + Ashara = Jon's elder sister

We have some conflicting rumours about Ashara. Dancing with several men in Harrenhal, being the mother of Jon, having a stillborn daughter, jumping from a tower etc.

In Martinian universe, the rumour that her body was never recovered hints that she faked her death. Such a thing can only be possible if she has some offspring of Targaryens and wants to hide the baby from Robert's wrath, which was proven in the sack of KL.

The first thing I propose is that Rhaegar was suffering from bipolar disorder and he was depressed about the obvious Martell appearance of Rhaenys and delicate health of Elia.

As a sidenote here, I want to mention one of the most famous person in history who suffered bipolar disorder. The name was Georg Cantor, one of the greatest mathematicians of all times. He was obsessed with proving the Continuum Hypotheses, which is still unproven and one of the hardest unsolved problems in maths. During one his his manic period, he wrote letters after letters to a friend. One time he was saying he proved the hypothesys and in the next letter he was writing he found a mistake in the proof. He wrote about 30 letters like this within a short period of time.

Rhaegar shared his opinions about his false interpretation of the prophecy with his closest companion, Arthur. Ashara already had the correct eyes and his brother Arthur had silver hair as well. Therefore, Arthur and Rhaegar decided that one of the heads could be born from Ashara. Rhaegar was surely capable of blowing the mind of an average noble lady and Ashara was no exception. However, Rhaegar still needed a ploy to cover up his impregnation of Ashara. At the same time, he wanted to look at other higborn maidens as the possible candidates for giving birth to the third head.

And this ploy was the Tourney at Harrenhal. With such a big tourney, all the noble people would come to Harrenhal with their sons and daughters. And so it happened. Knowing that Oswell and Arthur were present when Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna, I think Oswell Whent was in the inner circle with Rhaegar and Arthur as well. Remember that the toruney was declared after Oswell visited Harrenhal.

I think the plan was this: Ashara gets pregnant from Rhaegar 1-2 months before the Tourney. In the Tourney, Ashara uses all her charms and flirts with all the possible young men available for being her husband. This way, they would make sure that if the child of Ashara was born with obvious Targ features, then her husband will not be suspicious of this because the Daynes had it in their blood. Of course Rhaegar did not think much about what will happen when the child grows. He never thought about the future anyway.

By the way, Rhaegar was doing his husbandly duties to Elia for not to raise any suspicions. This led to the birth of Aegon with a comet in the sky. I think Ashara's daughter was born at most a month before Aegon. They both had obvious Targ features and Rhaegar was high with joy. When he held Aegon in Dany's dream, he said there must be one more. Aegon was born under a comet, he had an elder sister with Targ features and the only remaining thing was his smaller sister. He didnot consider Rhaenys as a head of the dragon.

As far as we know, Ashara could not find a husband in the Tourney. She delivered her baby and when they saw the obvious Targ features and the start of Robert's rebellion, they decided to hide the baby's existence by declaring her stillborn.

At the Tourney, Rhaegar found the Lyanna as the perfect candidate and did his best to impress her and he was successful to a certain degree. But no matter what he did, Lyanna did not agree to have sex with him, possibly due to her Stark honour and respect for close relationship of Ned and Robert. Rhaegar, who was half mad from joy of having two Targ looking babies with correct gender and appearance of the comet as an omen for Aegon at the time, decided to kidnap Lyanna. He took his closest companions and kidnapped Lyanna. Rhaegar didnot want to rape her and seeked for her approval. Lyanna, having little choice in the matter, agree with him, only after septon Meribald married them. Then they moved to Tower of Joy, which is a secret tower and only the Daynes know its location.

Daynes provided them all they need during their time in the ToJ. When Jon was born with that angry Stark appearance and wrong gender, Rhaegar was depressed again. And the news of the Aerys's deeds and Robert's succesful campaign made him depressed more. I think after Jon's birth, he treated Lyanna not as warm as before. He commanded the KG to watch for her and left for KL.

At this time, I think the remaining KG at the ToJ understood that Rhaegar was as dangerous to the realm as Aerys but because of their vows, they could not do anything but sit like angry birds.

When Ned argued with Robert and left KL in his wroth, he didnot know where to go. One of the most possible places to go was Starfall, the castle of the missing KG, Ser Arthur, closest friend of Rhaegar. Ned's fight with Robert was heard in most places including Starfall. Ned and Howland found Ashara in Starfall. Howland declared his love to her and agreed to marry her and take her child from Rhaegar as his own. Howland and Ashara were married in Starfall and Ashara gave him a personal item (ring, favor etc.) of hers. Ashara was angry with her brother Arthur as well, for uniting with Rhaegar and leaving her in a shitty condition.

Then the Ned's Seven went to ToJ with all their haste. There, Ned found the truest knights of the time who had no choice but keeping their vows, although they knew what a shit sandwich made their king and his heir. It came to swordpoint as Ned feared and the battle started. The 3 KG were more than capable of taking Ned's party 3 to 7. But before the battle, Howland declared his marriage to Ashara which makes him and Arthur kins and also his lineage descending from the Prince of Dragonflies, Duncan the Small. This made the KG uncapable of harming him, except defending themselves against his blows (an example was Baelor Breakspear who kept 3 KG occupied during Dunk's trial of seven).

Howland did his best to make the 3 KG occupied while his companions trying to take them out. Still the legendary KG were able to slay all but Ned and Howland. At the end, Arthur was alive along with Ned and Howland. Arthur was tired of fighting 3 to 7, and more than that one of them was constantly attacking him but he was not allowed to kill him. He also was regretting his wrongdoings with Rhaegar to Ashara. The fact that Ashara told the location of ToJ to Ned meant that Ashara was pissed with him and she had the right to do so. AS a result, He made a mistake (half from being tired and half from being regretful) and he let Howland's attack to disarm him, allowing Ned to give him the killing blow.

In the Tower, Ned found Lyanna dying half from childbirth and half from taking a delusional fool like Rhaegar as husband and feeling guilty of causing the terrible deaths of his brother and lord father. She made Ned promise to save Jon from Robert's wrath.

Howland and Ned returned to Starfall with Jon and Dawn and Wylla, who was nursing Jon at the ToJ. They faked the death of Ashara. Howland, Ashara and Ashara's daughter from Rhaegar returned to the Neck in secrecy while Ned, Wylla and Jon went to KL with Lyanna's bones. Ned made peace with Robert to give him no further doubts and returned to WF.

End of story.

By the way, Rhaegar whispered a woman's name in Dany's HotU vision which Dany didnot recognize. Many believed that it was Lyanna but Dany knew her name. So it can be another noble maiden which Dany does not know. If that is true, Rhaegar was planning to get that lady pregnant as well, even when Robert's warhammer was buried on his chest.

Why?? and How??

I don't know that it suggests that she faked her death but the fact that her body was never found does suggest that she could still be alive at least. Or else why would Martin leave that open?
