Olligarchy
So, if you were given all the stone and resources needed to build your castle, where would you place it? The thing is, you can't place it where another fortress has been built! Personally I'd place my mighty fortress at the junction of the Tumblestone, Pendric Hills and Nuns Deep. We know there's gold there and the access to freshwater means that the land is probably quite fertile allowing my lands to become rich and prosperous. Added a map to show off locations. If you want you can save it and upload your own with the others!

Olligarchy
Somewhere in the Stormlands. Somewhere near Summerhall. I too would like to build my castle "somewhere in Westeros." ;)
A Bastard Snow
I would place it beyond the shield islands and have it span the entire length of the Mander River (at the narrowest point/best point)And build a massive Gateway that when closed blocks off all access to the Reach. That way I just just go "Oh look the Squids are here *closes gate* GG" Not only would it be perfect for defense but I could make a fortune on taxes from the ships sailing through. KING-OF-WINTERFELL
I build mine where the blackwater rush meets the river from the God's eye and get some frey action there by building a triple crossing. one that leads to the reach, the other that leads to KL and the other to the southern riverlands. Olligarchy
I think he is looking for exact location not generalisation. Yeah, pretty much. I mean what good is telling your masons,"I want a castle somewhere in Stormlands." That leaves only an area roughly the size of Brazil for them to figure out where to build! The Bastard of Summer
didn't think i had to be that specific apologies. It would be in the Dornish Marches. There is a forked river that flows into the Sea of Dorne, Crows nest sits on one side of the fork and Stonehelm sits at the botton. I would build my keep on the vacant side of the river. Reek Havoc
Just east of the southern fork of Broken Branch. Well away from from the King's Road, cool climate but far enough south to produce healthy cold crops, and close to fresh water.

Actually I think the stormlands are the size of argentine, anyway with my stronghold i'd be rich and depending on the map (it varies) i'd be a vassal of KL or riverrun. HouseHarrison
The Eyrie already has the best terrain selection in the series. It was an exhausting and hazardous journey for Cat/Tyrion/co. to get to the castle being guests with escorts. Can't imagine what it'd be like for an invading army. And its grainary is described as being as large as Winterfell's, so the myth it doesn't have enough supply is silly. Otherwise, probably somewhere near Last Hearth. It's near a water source and forest for food/game. It's too far inland to be marchced on by ships. An army can't really march north on you because of the Wall (they'd have to swing around which is needless). You'd pretty much have to march thousands of miles through the cold north to get there. But don't both of these locations have a tad of a problem in that whilst they are defensible, they aren't exactly wealthy by themselves? As in you would have practically 0 income due to your castle being in the middle of nowhere.
Inc4
Somewhere is the North. North seems a nice place. But far away from Dreadford :p
Eli Stark
20 miles south of the Twins on the Green Fork, out of spite.I would go just upstream from Freys. Close enough to steal all their business since I wouldn't be such a detestable prick. Also, I could take pleasure that when I release sewage or other refuse downriver, it will go right into the Frey's drinking water. It's the small things in life you have to treasure. Waters Gate
On the Stepstones. It could either be disaster or be the jackpot. I would need to make prepperations.I'd need some wealth before commencing, prefferably i'm a trader with ships.I'm not going to build a very big fortress, more important are harbors with plenty of warships and men to staff them. Objective is to be able to excert naval control over the stepstones area. Going to take time to subjugate and consolidate such a rebellious and heavily pirated region, i shall need help. Prefferably i shall be a vassal directly to the crown, so i can build a lord paramouncy in the stepstones.I'm going to offer the crown a good percentage of my income for service's, mainly being able to use the warships they don't use in preacetimes anyway. And then i'm going to levy a toll on all merchant ships passing trough the waters near the stepstones. The crown will be given a rebate so to get a competitive advantage in trade aswell, so will a few Westerosi lords like the redwyne's, hightowers or others get some very good offers. This in turn might enable me to lend their combine dnaval power to clean out the stepstones with me of pirates. For most traders in Westeros this shall be advantagious since the waters will be clear of pirate's for quite some lenght, and because i shall be levying the brunt of the toll on traders from Essos , Westeros will become more compettive in their trade aswell. The traders of Essos get clear waters and ports to dock on but likely theyll not be my best friends, but i will rely on the naval powers of Westeros to help me in keeping naval control over the region. It's going to take quite some effort, diplomacy and fighting to secure my position and my abbilety to do that, but once the toll gold starts pouring in maintaining a large warfleet to control the islands will be fairly easy and ill have a rather powerfull position dificult to break by force. To additionally strenghten the island i shall make a deal with the Ironborn aswell, the more so to not have issue with them either. I can scarcely offer the ironborn advantage's in trade as thats probably not their thing, but i can offfer them basses to opperate from so that they can go raiding as of the good old days but then beyond beyond the stepstones away from Westeros. Ill negotiate for this with the crown, let the crown offer "letters de marque" for the ironborn to raid as far as say Sotherys and slavers bay or beyond, with rules that they cannot board Westerosi ships. This gets the restless ironborn off the back of the IT, allows them to enrich themselfs somewhere else paying tribute to the crown, they may also enter trading ships of certain nations of Essos depending on the situation. Sure some of them will be somewhat pissed, but Westeros has the stuff to maintain total naval superiority, and like this strenghten its trade power, it should enrich a lot of people i Westeros besides me afcourse. I will ask the ironborn afcourse to deal with "competing pirates" aswell, make them secure their monopoly on that trade so to speak.I will allow some of those ironborn who plunder themselfs rich to settle them on one of the step stones islands if they swear allegiance and pay tribute to me, that way the Ironborn have some way to expand to even if only fairly small islands. Afcourse ill keep the largest/most fertile island for myself, not that it wil matter that much, might even take the island for myself that can offer the best harbor.I don't think ill be lacking any wealth from my new seat, with all that trade flowing around here.
