Kyle H
In a short exchange on her twitter account, Martin's UK editor indicates that TWOW will likely NOT be released in 2015: https://twitter.com/JaneJohnsonBakr/status/492050207979634689 This is rather depressing... Marius Tarceatu
Guess we'll just watch the show without bitching that they did something different than the books. After that we will be amazed by grrm in 2020:)
sabrecmc
Well, darn. I really thought they'd have it out by the time the 5th season ended, so we could have Jon's "death" and then the book on the heels of that...
Duke O' Nooobs
Depressing, yet what everyone has expected. Might as well tighten up the belt, gonna be a lean winter to come. Thank you God for other fantasy authors...
What Would Victarion Do
We all know the show will finish first since there's no way book 7 comes out before 2020 which would be years after the show's expected end. However, I put very little stock in this answer from his UK publisher and guarantee she will get backlash for stating this on twitter. George could easily finish the book by the end of 2015 since he doesn't have much on his schedule between now and then it's all about motivation and the show moving so quickly will hopefully at least spur him to finish book 6 shortly after season 5 ends or possibly that November for the holidays. I say late 2015 is still possible with sometime in 2016 being a much stronger possibility.
Duke O' Nooobs
Eh, George hasn't worked on the book much the last few months since he's been off on his summer of travel. I don't think his dos machine travels well lol
ebevan91
I think it is now time we all accept the show will finish first. Martin should write the finale for S6 & S7 so that we have a proper end to the show. Then if he wants to, he can finish the books without any pressure at his own leisure. I am excited, because everyone - show or book - are in the same boat now. It will be a fresh experience for all. If the show is really going to finish before the books, I think GRRM should be more active in the TV show's writing. Then when the scripts are written, he should go back to writing the books. Cas Stark
Are people really surprised by this? So, no 2015. That means 2016 is now the best case....another 5 years between books at a minimum. Which, doesn't that then disprove that the "five year gap" "Meereen knot" were excuses that the author was using for whatever is the real thing that has gone wrong with his ability or motivation to finish the series? Talo
If we are highly unlikely to see the book in 2015, and from what the publisher has said in the past - I think we are likely looking at a 2017 release.
Giorgio Corrado
Looks like they are going to have to start writing chapters into the TV series maybe see 1 book = 3 TV seasons.

Faint
That is rather disappointing. I was thinking that it would be released sometime between mid-2015 to mid-2016, but it now looks like 2015 is off the table. And contrary to why I thought before, it now appears as if all the material from The Winds of Winter will be taking place on the television series before the book is published. D&D really have their work cut out for them. They probably will need to hire another writer or two in order to turn out all new material on such a tight deadline. Kyle H
I don't understand how the book can be so far out still, while his US editor recently said they hope to have it "reasonably soon..." I don't think very many people consider 1.5 years at the earliest to be "reasonably soon," especially given the three years of waiting already, and Martin's/publishers claims that this book would come much quicker.I generally think that I am fairly patient, but, after the many comments in the recent past pointing to maybe a 2014 or even early 2015 release (such as the above comment by Groell, indications from Martin that the writing is going better than Dance, and his belief that he will stay in front of the show), is a bitter disappointment - and I think those fans who are (or are becoming) disappointed/impatient are justified in those feelings. When did he say he would stay in front of the show? That's delusional if he said that any time in the last few months. The only way he could stay in front of the show is for Winds to come out this year or Q1 next year and the last book to be out Q1 2017.

The only way he could stay in front of the show is for Winds to come out this year or Q1 next year and the last book to be out Q1 2017.He said it in a Vanity Fair article from March 2014 (he seems to think here still that Feast/Dance will take much more [read: 3 seasons] than one season, which, you're right, does sound kind of delusional, given where season 4 ended, and D&Ds re confirmation after it ended that 7 seasons was still the target):"And it’s my hope [that] long before they catch up with me, I’ll have published The Winds of Winter, which’ll give me another couple years. It might be tight on the last book, A Dream of Spring, as they juggernaut forward."http://www.vanityfair.com/vf-hollywood/george-r-r-martin-interview
