Is Meera a kinslayer? (Show Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

In the show, when Meera Reed cuts his brother Jojen's throat to prevent him from violent death in hands of Skyrim skeletons wights, does he commit kinslaying? I know he did it for good, but for no one is accursed as a kinslayer. Just rewatched the episode today, but I'm wondering...

Lol everyone hates on the skeletons. I really enjoyed that and they looked amazing.

As for the question, yes she is a kinslayer.

Well, technically she is a kinslayer because she killed her brother, but I can't see anyone judging her for it, especially since he was (probably) dying anyway and if she hadn't sliced his throat he would have faced a more painful death at the hands of the skeletons.

No one will ever know in Westeros...

It was a kinslaying but IMO it was justified. Letting brother die painful death at hands of wights would be more

immoral.

I personally would not count it as kinslaying. It was done as an act of desperation, mercy, and love.

Since the Gods hate kinslayers even when they kill unknowing, I don't think the fact it was out of mercy would render her innocent in the eyes of the 'Gods'.

No but I was more thinking in terms of what people would view her as.

But then you're getting into the beliefs of the religious institutions, and their interpretation of what is right and wrong. Too political for me.

My firm belief is that, the gods, if there are powerful gods, would know her heart and her love for her brother. It wasn't done out of hate, lust for murder, or personal gain. It was done for mercy. I don't care what the septons say about it.

I think what Dany did to Drogo was worse than what Meera did to Jojen. But at the same time, it was done out of mercy. To put him out of his misery because she knew if Drogo couldn't ride a horse, or even move/live a normal life, that it wasn't truly living for him. That he would want to die and be set free. I don't see her actions as murder, either.

If I was in a zombie apocalypse, and I was completely crippled and about to be eaten alive...I'd want the person with me to end it swiftly rather than to leave me behind and have be die one bite at a time. Hopefully the gods feel the same way.

But to each his own.

Um, does anyone even care if Robert killed Rhaegar, even if he was his cousin? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the novels that someone would view him as a kinslayer, not even Dany or Viserys.

I don't think anyone did.

Honestly, I don't think he would have been named king at all if kinslaying was something he was recently being accused of. But you're right, I never heard anyone mention it.

Good point.
