duckman
In July there will be a new book by Ted Chiang. Now this must come as a surprise since there is absolutely no infor for it yet anywhere on the Internet other than it will be released by Subterennean Press for some reason rather than a major publisher, and that it will be called "The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate". Just thought I'd update this information in case anyone was interested. The book is available for pre-order from SubPress. According to their site: The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate By Ted Chiang (preorder--due in July) Limited: $45 Trade: $20 ISBN: 978-1-59606-100-2 Length: 83 pages "Four things do not come back: the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life, and the neglected opportunity." --Arabic Proverb In medieval Baghdad, a penniless man is brought before the most powerful man in the world, the caliph himself, to tell his story. It begins with a walk in the bazaar, but soon grows into a tale unlike any other told in the caliph's empire. It's a story that includes not just buried treasure and a band of thieves, but also men haunted by their past and others trapped by their future; it includes not just a beloved wife and a veiled seductress, but also long journeys taken by caravan and even longer ones taken with a single step. Above all, it's a story about recognizing the will of Allah and accepting it, no matter what form it takes. Limited: 200 signed numbered copies Trade: fully cloth bound hardcover edition Bill has stated that the press run for the trade will be dictated by pre-orders and reviews. Here's an early review. He also said he had a few proofs left for reviewers, so you bloggers might want to see if you can get your hands on one. I was intrigued enough by the summary and review that I placed an order. I doubt that Chiang will disappoint.

Caine
The only book I'm looking forward to this year is Matt Stover's Caine Black Knife. Gawd, I love Matt Stover, something of a Matt Stover groupie, his books are so much fun.
All-for-Joffrey
A Dance with Dragons, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Red Seas Under Red Skies. Not very original or lengthy but it keeps me happy.
Marcelo Rebelo Firqoralas
Irene Gallo has posted the cover art for Gene Wolfe's Pirate Freedom. It looks nice, but the typography doesn't seem to really fit with the illustration.

Slick Mongoose
Possibly the Rain Wilds novel from Hobb. Hobb's writing a Rain Wilds novel? Cool.
Calibandar
She is, it is her next project after Soldier Son which was completed a while ago. She said it takes place after Fool's Fate and will show what the consequences of major events of that book are on the world afterwards, particularly in the Rain Wilds and Trehaug. It will not be a continuation of the characters from the Liveship trilogy apparantly ( and fortunately) but they will have some appearances.
