Protagonist90
Hey guys, so as much as I am a big fan of the ASOIAF series, the show is ruining it for me with all the changes and the potential spoilers that I'm not quite sure I'm ready to continue watching it after Season 5. Littlefinger's dick move to send the Vale army to Winterfell is a big potential spoiler for a move in the next books. If not, then whatever, but still. Jaime and Bronn in Dorne is just so bad a move. What is going on there? Don't even get me started on the Sansa storyline. Yes, Ramsey's move was predictable, but why Sansa!!?? I prefer great story telling over big shock value. I'll stop my rant and ask you fellow book fans this question. How many of you are considering watching the show after Season 5, provided that the TWoW book won't be out by Season 6? I just want to know I'm not alone in my current feelings for this show at the moment and would love some insights.
Lordi Nietos
First of all the show has diverged so much that I don't think it can spoil the books (see: Dorne). Littlefinger certainly would have to do a lot to convince the Vale Lords to go to war for him (in the books, in the show I guess he could teleport to Meereen and get Dany to give him Rhaegal to ride). I have no idea whether I'll keep watching the show. My guess is that I will, but the Dorne disaster certainly makes me less enthusiastic about the show. The disappointments keep piling up, and the most of parts I was looking forward to have been cut. The Kingsmoot, the Queenmaker plot, the Frey pies, all gone. To me it seems they're dumbing it down far too much to make sure the lobotomized audience with goldfishbrain transplants don't get confused. Alayne's Shadow.
I'll probably not watch it anymore.
David Selig
I am watching for the spoilers and to laugh at how hilariously bad the writing has become.
DJE
I look at the show and books as separate entities so I will keep watching, plus it may be the only way we ever get a resolution to the story. GRRM isn't getting any younger and as long as it takes him to write, we may never get ADOS
fangirl000
I will keep watching. We knew this season was going to be the most different from the books going in. I accept that the TV show is an adaptation and thus a different animal from the books. In my opinion, for the most part, the TV series is well shot, well written, and well acted. I would like to know at least ONE Martin approved ending for the series, and frankly I don't expect the books to provide one for another ten years. So yes, I will keep watching, and generally enjoying, the TV series.
gash is back
the book are never going to be finished so i want to know how it all ends. i am not one of these people who gets upset at the two differing either. as mentioned above, they are seperate beasts. Hol Horse
The terrible writing and nonsensical actions would make me drop the show way before any potential spoilers might. I'll keep watching it. There's still a couple arcs I'm interested in. The only time I'd drop the show would be if they completely butchered the thing in its entirety, or if I had to put in a lot of time or effort into watching it - in which case I'd dedicated both to something else and simply wait for the book(s). Since neither of those have happened yet, I'll keep following it.
ckongo
If I wasn't so curious how badly they'd screw over the books with what increasingly became ASOIF fan-fiction post- season1 I'd have stopped a long time ago. From a readers perspective it would seem foolish to keep watching it if I didn't want to be spoiled about future books. Two problems though... 1. It's almost impossible to avoid spoilers about the show. Ex: I went onto Yahoo today and the first image was of an article about Sansa's wedding night. It seems after each episode there are 5 articles all over Yahoo spoiling things in the subject line. What if after season 7 ends I glimpse one saying something like, "So will Dany be a good ruler on the iron throne now?" 2. I have the sinking feeling we'll only get to see the end of the story in any form through the show. I sadly don't see GRRM finishing the series at his pace and age; especially with talks of a possible eighth book.
JonisHenryTudor
Nope. They already mentioned that spoilers were in this season, and next season is on WoW. Different mediums, yes? Same ending, also a yes. I can wait patiently for the books with minimal spoilers from this season.
Charlie Of House Bucket
I'll still watch it. I still find it entertaining - in part from reading the funny negative nitpick threads here, but also in its own right.

I believe that belongs in the misconceptions thread in the general section ;). That is, that it is a misconception that he will finish the story. Bawn
I'm considering not watching it because the quality has plummeted because of all the changes. I might be biased though. However, it has changed so much that I no longer consider them the same story. I would bet that the books will have a much different outcome than the show. The difference is we wont have to wait 25 years for the final episode of the show.
Prince of the North
I'll keep watching it to the end. If for no other reason, just to see how incredibly bad it will get. Also, because my expectations are so unbelievably low now, who knows, maybe it'll surprise me in some small ways?

Lordi Nietos
1. It's almost impossible to avoid spoilers about the show. Ex: I went onto Yahoo today and the first image was of an article about Sansa's wedding night. It seems after each episode there are 5 articles all over Yahoo spoiling things in the subject line. What if after season 7 ends I glimpse one saying something like, "So will Dany be a good ruler on the iron throne now?" How badly would you be spoiled if you hadn't read AFFC and glimpsed someone saying "how will Jaimes commando mission to Dorne end?" or "Ellarias thirst for vengeance can't end well."? AlpenglowMemories
I will. They're honestly so far removed from each other that I actually think the spoilers will be quite minimum. But even with that in mind spoilers don't really bother me that much. Plot can be interesting during a first read or viewing, but on the whole I'm more interested in the journey, the execution, world building and the tone. dooog
Season 4 was a mixed bag and season 5 has been absolutely dire, but it's still not that bad a show. It used to be a great show, now i'd say it's average with a lot of inconsistencies and plain idiocy but there are also good points.Even if the quality declined to the point where we reached, say, Walking Dead or Spartacus levels of shittiness i'd still probably have to continue watching, simply because it's gotten so big i'd rather see it first hand than have the overall ASOIAF outcome spoiled by facebook or wherever.
