Alternative Chapter Titles

During my recent reread I decided to think of proper chapter titles, instead of Eddard, Catelyn etc.

It's not as easy as you might think, as you have to ensure they are professional, accurate, and yet spoiler free.

Anyway, here are my titles for A Game of Thrones. Hope you like them!

This is madness. I love it.

I would change "wizard" to "the monsters in the dark"; "Joffrey's first court" to "King Joffrey Bratheon" and "treason and justice" to "The King's Justice" edit one: which would work great if Bran's first chapter is called "The Justice Of The North"

I really enjoyed doing it! I'll post my ACOK and ASOS ones soon. 

Wizard was a tough one, I just couldn't think of a name for it, and I liked the description of Varys as a wizard.

Regarding Bran "From the Snow", I thought it was a good bookend with the final chapter of the book: Dany "From the Fire". It's the births of the direwolves and the dragons, the two most "mystical" parts of the story, for me.

I really like the simplicity of the character names as chapter titles. I didn't even like it when Martin started getting whimsical with the titles in Feast and Dance.

Sounds like something I would really like to make but lack the will or time to do so.

I agree, but this is fun any way.

Also, I think that George regrets the decision he made with this, and that's why he keeps changing the chapter names, many say that hey represent characters that aren't confident about their identity or whatever, which makes sense for Alayne and Mercy, and maybe even Quentyn's chapters, but "The Soiled Knight" and "The Princess In The Tower" are just Martin bored with his naming scheme IMO

I don't like the inconsistency of his chapter names in the later books. I'm fine with the secondary characters having alternative names, but they are almost all "aliases" e.g. The Princess in the Tower, The Kingbreaker, The Soiled Knight". But then he throws in a random one called "The Sacrifice" for Asha I think.

 

And I don't like the main characters having Reek, Alayne and the various ones Arya got. IMO they should have stayed as their true names.

Definitely wasn't trying to knock the idea of the thread with my last post or derail it, so apologies if it came out that way. Just my little blurb of an opinion. Titling the chapters kind of tells the reader what should be important about that chapter rather than letting them determine what's important for themselves.

Edit: Though I'm glad we're all in agreement about the Feast/Dance titles.  Though I did like when it changed back to Theon from Reek.

I agree, it works just having their names. This was just my idea of fun, I kind of obsess over the names of TV episodes etc. I honestly think Feast and Dance are negatively affected by something as trivial as this, but maybe that's just me

Thank you, I did! Some of them were really hard to come by, and there are a few I'm not happy with. Namely Eddard's, they are all rather boring as his chapters are all quite samey. Apart from Streets of Rain (Jaime attacking Ned). I think it has a real "film noir" feel to it.
 

Some of them have double meanings too, "The Lost Children" is Luwin and Osha speaking about the Children of the Forest to Bran and Rickon, who at that moment are rather lost themselves.

These are the only ones I like having changed, especially Reek, he's no longer Theon, he's Reek, he has been subdued entirely by Ramsay.
